Recently noticed an weird engine rattle when just beginning to accelerate. If gas pedal is goosed, the noise isn't present, but just about 1000 to 1500 RPM is the sweet spot to hear this weird noise. Happened in forward and reverse. Strangely no noises when engine revs in park or neutral, only when in gear. Once car was moving, the noise seemed to subside. I was worried it was something with the transmission, although from inside the sound seemed to come from the passenger side. The serpentine belt tensioner appears to be the culprit! 😮
Turns out the rattle IS the belt tensioner, which has been replaced and the rattle continues. The CULPRIT is the AC Compressor. After more than a year driving around, I have found that the rattle stops when the AC switch is turned 'off,' but any time the AC is engaged, the rattle is present. My AC still works fine and blows cold air, so I've just learned to live with it rather than replacing the AC compressor. Thanks Hyundai.
