I just bought this car and it's super amazing the Navigation is super cool and easy to use. I just speak to it. Sh-awd super handling all wheel drive is the best there is. I feel very confident every turn and I Used to own a Lancer Evolution. This car is just so quiet and feels so luxurious. I really Recommend getting this car.

In my line of work, I drive a lot. On average, 30-35 thousand miles annually. I enjoy driving a luxury car that won't break my wallet. Acura cars suit me perfectly. Sure they may not have the razor sharp driving dynamics of a 3 series or an A4 but that is of little interest to me. I drive a car to about 200 to 250 thousand miles before is get a new one. In my personal experience, no BMW or Audi was able to last this long without spending huge sums of money in repairs. Once my BMW or my MB hit the century mark, the cost of repairs and up keep became way too expensive.

The front grille looks almost identical to the current TL. Didn't Acura understand that beek is what destroyed sales for TL for many years?
@BDOC99714
9 жыл бұрын
Which is why they toned it way down. The original beak on the TL was 2x bigger than this one and in the mid cycle refresh they basically cut the beak in half. This more like a shield than a beak now and it looks quite nice now imo.
@Logicsupremacy

thebluexanadu78 you're talking about super beek 09-11 grille and I was talking about 12-14 grille. I've owned 12 TL which is already toned down from 09-11. That TLX grille looks just like that of my old 12 TL.
@BDOC99714
9 жыл бұрын
King Jack They have the same basic shape but the TLX one is a lot more sculpted I guess you can say. I don't think the grille looks bad on the new Acura's. The original beak grille I can't say the same about though...
@senorgato70
9 жыл бұрын
If you really paid any true attention, it wasn't the beak that was the primary undoing of sales. Both the TL and TSX became larger, less dynamic vehicles than their predecessors and compared to their direct competition. When the MDX adopted the beak in 2010, its sales INCREASED by over 50% than the previous year. The current model, beak and all, is now continually setting sales records almost monthly. And the current RDX, with beak, is setting sales records. The reality is that its' about the whole of the car and now just a simple design element that will impact sales.

I am a current 2007 audi a6 4.2 quattro (6-speed tran) owner (between me and my wife we have owned 911, range rover, bmw 3,5,7, lexus gs 350 and I am all about the german cars) , and I am looking to replace it due to maint. cost of an older car (although it still drives amazing) and just the hassle of taking it the shop. I have been testing driving the smaller sports sedans, namely the tlx, bmw 335, lexus is 350 w/ sports package, & Cadillac ATS. I heard this whole argument that the tlx was the same as the Honda - I thought the same and I could same myself some $ so I test drove the accord touring (the top of the line loaded w/ v6 278 hp), although I can appreciate its value for as a family sedan (same goes for the 2015 Chrysler 200 w/ v6 awd) - its my view that tlx's exterior and inter. looks and drive performance is far superior to the accord (the accord seems like a bigger car and roomer - better for family & has a great turning signal camera that tlx does not have) - the reviewer made a big deal that the tlx and Honda buttons were the same - maybe but I did not notice plus rest of the cabin is way nicer in the tlx (I am not sure how I feel about the design decision of 2 led screens but it did not bother me much - vs the nav in bmw 3 which bugs me). also, the lexus is 350 is at an entirely different level than the Toyota Avalon (they share the same platform) - for me the only weakness w/ the is 350 is the ugly front grill and in the awd model there is an annoying hump near the drives gas foot. I hear a lot of complains about tlx front grill beak - my view considering the jewel led lights - the front looks stunning especially at night (may favorite front in this class is the Cadillac ATS which is a mini-me of the cts - for me the cts front is the tops of looks and design) . getting back to the tlx, I have test drove each of the 3 core models 2-times each from 2 different dealers - i.e. tlx 2.4l front drive, 3.5l fd, 3.5 awd. for me, the tech package is a must (high value at low cost) - I can take or leave the advanced package - it cost a lot & I would not get it unless safety tech features (plus fog lights, puddle lights, & remote start) are important to you . the tlx 2.4l is an incredible value and I think its the sweet pot and its the sportest and most fun to drive of the 3 models. but I cant stand the wheels and upgrade them w/ tires is 3k versus going w/ 3.5l (which has nicer wheels) is 4k more than the 2.4l. the 3.5l fd, I don't think handles as well as the 2.4l. I prefer the 3.5l awd - its a more luxury ride feel w/ some sport and closer to what I currently drive. I agreed w/ the reviewer in that not having heated steering wheel option is bs (he did not mention standard shifting paddles). now about the electronic shifter in the 3.5l models, 1st acura is not the only manufacture whom removes the shifter lever; the only pro is that it frees up space - e.g. putting & getting stuff from driver seat to passenger side; the reviewer complaint about not having shifter for a hand rest - that is an opinion thing; my opinion thing is that a shifter looks cooler, i.e. the shifter in 2.4l should also be used in 3.5l; the biggest con is the function of having to a quick reverse , e.g. 3 point turn - the drive shift is push-down button is that simple to operate but the reverse shift is a pull-side-back button which is a little awkward; for me the electronic shifter is not a major pro/con decider. regarding ATS, I drove the awd in 2.0l turbo and 3.6l, first I think they over ratetheir engine specs (e.g. based on their specs the ats would out perform bmw 328x or 335x - nope - not happening) and I prefer the acura trans (both 8 & 9 speed) over the ats 6-speed (ats rear wheel comes in 8-speed which is great) that said the ATS ext. and int. is much better than the tlx (I think better than bmw 3) and a better drive performance (pretty close to the bmw 3). I still need to drive the lincoln mkz before I choose a car but.. in terms of value my finalist are the tlx and ats. the tlx msrp sticker is unbeatable in this class ; I have not tested the dealers yet but I don't think they comes down in price much in the usa cause these cars are flying of the dealer lots. with ATS, there are pretty crazy rebates and extra dealer $ for 2014 ATS (i.e. while supplies last & limited options) - so in the end they are almost the same costs as a similar tlx. I tried prefixing most of statements with this is "my opinion" or "my view", i.e. I am trying present myself as a know-it all or as an expert, - just saying,

RickTrajan Because CVT transmissions are the most unreliable transmissions you can get and they're expensive on top of that. In fact because of that some used car places will not offer warranties for cars that have them. Some companies have been doing pretty good with their CVT transmissions, like Toyota and Nissan, But if I were to list Mini Cooper then you would see a lawsuit with them because their CVT was guaranteed to go out within 20,000 miles and it was costing people 8K to just fix it, not even replace it with a brand new one. CVT transmissions also don't have the performance or sound that people like to feel or hear.

Liked the review, short yes, but summed up the strengths and weaknesses of the car well. I agree that Acura is going after the value proposition in the luxury segment. That may work since Honda carries a high reliability and longevity reputation. The elephant in the room is Honda's own accord in touring trim level for substantially less. Those not "keeping up with the Joneses" nameplate conscious may choose to save the substantial price difference.

I can't be the only one who is bored to tears by Honda. It seems like they're stuck a decade in the past. I realize they have a lot of the modern technology of most new cars, but the implementation seems cheap and childish, like it belongs on an '03 Accord. The only dynamic thing on this car is the Jewel headlights. I like those. Other than that, this looks older than the last gen TL. same with the MDX. They need to step up their styling. Or at least get some. It's pretty obvious that the Germans will always dominate this whole genre of cars, but Lexus and Infiniti at least compete. This would struggle to beat the W203 C-Class. It in no way seems exciting, new or modern. The problem with Hondas is, aside from the inherent cheap, plasticy, gimmicky feel of all of their cars, they have no soul or passion, whatsoever. Lexus' new styling is incredibly polarizing, many people hate it. I happen to think it is beguilingly beautiful, as if there's a passion about it. The designers cared. They didn't make a car for everyone but they made a piece of art for a few. Except the ES. That thing will forever be a sad, black hole in the shining beacon of hope that is Lexus design. And Lexus also has the build quality and technology to back it up. In this segment, you can't design a blob for all, like the Accord and Camry. You have to have the quality, the technology and passionate design. You can't please everyone because you never will. Lexus and Infiniti have just finally realized that and that's why the Q50 (shudders at horrible new naming system) and IS are flying off the showroom floors. Take Mercedes and BMW. The people who buy those cars are impossibly opinionated about what they own, so much so that it's a part of their identity. I know, I'm one of them. Mercedes doesn't design the C-Class to be like the 3-Series, and vice-versa. They design the car for owners of their respective brands, and with the hope of attracting new customers, they don't go after the other brand's customers because they know it won't work. When one of the big 3 design a new car for this segment, they best the competition not to steal marketshare, but to provide a better experience for their customers, and that's why they have been constantly improving their products products as one for 100+ years (and why they attract NEW customers) while the rest of the car world stands around and copies them. This segment is primarily for young people who are looking to get into a luxuey brand. One they will likely stick with for the rest of their lives. Nobody in this segment wants to say, "I chose my car becuase it was a cheap compromise". They choose it becuase of brand devotion, or the styling, or the technology, or luxury or sportiness. Acura is still trying to build the everyone car while they need to design the Acura-lover's car. Honda has the owners to be brought into the upper echelon of luxury cars in a few years time, they just need to build the cars to do so, or they lose them to the Germans. Until the day comes when Acura pulls their heads out of their asses, I think the best TLX to buy is definitely an IS350.

I don't know about this review- he states that if he's buying a luxury car then it should feel like one- and I agree but then at the end when he's comparing it to BMW and MB he states that the TLX is a good buy compared to the luxury competitors. I'm confused- does he think it's more like a Honda and not luxurious enough or a steal for a luxury car compared to its competition? He also thinks the new push button shift is cool earlier in the video but then dismisses it later on. I do agree that Acura's dual screen is redundant and the top screen that carries the NAVI appears to be too small from a drivers perspective compared to other rivals.

We have had an incident where a 16 year old crossed the lanes on the highway onto incoming traffic, and collided head on with another car. The driver of car he crashed into died on the scene - texting was blamed. See Regina - ring road accident leaves one dead.

This car is almost perfect. It needs an available heated steering wheel and it's set. Unfortunately I don't know why Acura feels the US market is undeserving of such a common feature in cars of this class when the Canadian models have them available. It gets really cold here in NY and it's a much needed feature. This car may have some features the rest don't offer, but yet a common feature like this is one feature the rest DO offer and this one doesn't.
@Mrlolibre
9 жыл бұрын
They probably didn't add it because not all of the regions of the US needs it. I like Canada , geographically colder, as a whole compared to the US. I guess a easy fix is to simply wear gloves, not sure how that feels with driving because I live in the South.
@juanzingarello4005
9 жыл бұрын
Mrlolibre Again. Offer it as an option then. I'm not saying make it a mandatory standard feature. But at least think for a bit that people that purchase in this category look for features like these. The fact that I can get a feature like that on a Kia Soul and not on this which is supposed to be a luxury car is down right pathetic and I can think of no other reason Acura is doing this other than counting beans.
@Mrlolibre
9 жыл бұрын
Juan Zingarello Yea i understand where you're coming from. One negative outcome from providing it as an option would be the possibility of an overall higher MSRP on the car due to R&D required for the option. It's not fair for people who live in warmer regions and/or don't care for the feature all together. I think KIA is offering it because they are trying very hard to establish their brand/improve sales anyway possible. It's known that Acura is known as a "better" brand than Kia so perhaps they feel as if they don't have to provide it.
@juanzingarello4005
9 жыл бұрын
Mrlolibre This feature is already available in Canada but NOT in the US. Whatever extra cost needed to develop this feature for this car is already implemented in the MSRP. Yet it's not available in the US even as an option. That's even worst when you're forcing me to pay a premium on an MSRP for a feature you developed but won't sell to me. Also, as much of a high end brand Acura may think they are, they are still way behind Lexus and the Germans for them to even have that "Oh we can get away with selling our badge only" mentality. As of late, Acura has only been able to get the MDX and RDX moving off the lots. At best, Acura now competes with Buick or Lincoln yet those two offer way more features. Honda as a whole is getting better at offering up-to-date features, but it's pretty pathetic when I can get features like HD radio, rear-seat vents, LED running lights, a host of safety tech like Lane departure warning and automatic collision mitigation on a 2015 Honda CR-V Touring and none of these are even available as options on the RDX. I hope Honda realizes this and vastly adds features to that RDX like heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and not simply catch it up with the CR-V by making it into a V6 CR-V. I know it's not just me that points this out as many professional reviewers also call Acura out on being behind in features.

But the Acura shifter is almost useless in fun compared to the Steptronic found in BMWs, specially the oldest ones.

I just bought the same car, and my wife and audi a3 and i kinda like the a3 more, there is less going on in the audi and all the tech and screens gets stressful.... also audi nailed it with their mmi, my tlx is a little slow and not smooth. we are all use to nice computers and phones these days and the audi is like a iphone 6 and the acura is like a iphone 4. thats the best i can explain.

Was very interested in this car until I jumped on Acurazine and saw all the problems that owners are having with BOTH the DCT and the ZF 9 speed trans in all TLX models. Looks like Acura has a bit of a lemon in its hands. Too bad, really. Checked all the boxes for me and my family otherwise.

This car competes with the infiniti q50 and the Lexus ES. No way is it in the same segment as the bmw and the merc. And the lane keep assist is in the q50 also. That thing can completely drive itself without anyone sitting in the drivers seat (Google it). You guys need some reviewers with knowledge... Email me

How are the BMW 3 series, Lexus IS and Mercedes C class in another segment? Maybe because they're all more expensive, but in size and target audience, they're in the same segment.

Unless it was a Canadian import or you live in Canada I don't see how that's possible. Only the Canadian trim has the heated steering wheel.

So the luxury thing about this car is not so much the materials on the interior, but its multitude of options. Well sorry but that doesn't qualify a car to be called 'luxury'. I would settle for the term 'near luxury'. Perhaps. So yes, it's cheaper than the Germans, but Acura skimped on the materials.

I think the TLX is only attractive on the front end, it is kind of boring elsewhere. I'm all for late and great technology but I like it to be presented in simple form. The 2 screens can be overwhelming for some, and cause instant frustration as they can get overcrowded with information. And it's redundant that you can control certain things and see things with both screens at the same time. I'm all about options but to have the same options twice with the same results is just all for nothing. This car doesn't stand out or even gets me excited to drive it's just kinda there.

The missing quad or earlier tail pipe outlets were sharp. Now it looks like moms Camry in the back end. The Accord touring sport has this beat by leaps and bound on looks. Has Acura resolved the crummy transmission issues that seem to have plagued all model years so far? I have a 06 TL in excellent condition with 225k on it. I nickle dime the repairs when needed which most of the time is way better than a car payment. I wish the 06 had some of the newer tech features these have. People need to remember when you have an AWD car and only 2 tires seem worn, you have to replace all 4 tires at the same time or you'll have erratic traction or spinning of the worn tires and not the new tires. Not good! I'd buy an older model that has what I'm looking for that this year and newer missed as long as the transmission was worth a damn.

I was driving a rented Chrysler 200C with the 8-speed automatic and it was an awful ride. I would not guess when the gears are going to shift and what not, I keep feeling the trany shifts every second. After all, I would rather keep my 01 Camry than that bullsh*t.

I work for Honda Motor Company. Acura's are not built for performance. They are built for comfort and luxury. The TLX targets an older generation who appreciates refinement and low maintenance cost. I'm 34 yrs old and prefer the Accord Coupe 3.5L V6 Manual. If you want pure performance and do not mind paying top dollar for maintenance, go buy a $50+ German vehicle.

This is not a very good review, its too lazy and slow. Too much background information, not enough impressions on the car itself. Up to 6:00 the reviewer doesn't talk much about how the car drives. He talks more about the car lineup, differences in trim level. And I can't believe he actually talked about why the TLX, RLX all end in the letter X..... how about you review the car you are driving instead of spending so much time on background information. Its a car review, please review the car.
