Run the recommended oil and change it every 5k miles it has 190k miles on it the first owner had the running chain tensioner and gaskets replaced at 120k miles. I bought it with 136k miles. All I’ve done on it are brakes and the pvc valve. Very happy with it.

I have 82k odometer honda. It had only one owner, and official honda service maintenance. I went to check valve clearance and now i am replacing chain and tensioner. It was fully open. What the heck ? 82k. How comes? Is that honda oil so bad? I don't know even what to say. Toyotas have chain with rollers and it lasts for decades. Hope oil pump chain is ok, becase i don't have chance to lower subframe. K24Z7 looks like doesn't give me a chance to unmount oil pan.

This is the result for all of you who run 0w20 and 5w20. Especially 5w20 conventional. I been preaching for years to many owners to not use these grades oil, because they're horrible for the engine. Some listened, some didnt. Those who didn't vowed to not buy another Honda when they had oil burning problems at 120,000kms. On the other end, i have maintained 4 different modern hondas from just about brsnd new to over 250,000km on synthetic 5w30 at 8-10,000km intervals and those engines never had s leak, oil burn or any timing issues.

Poor oil quality together with extended oil change intervals, oil dilution and short drive cycles compound the problem. I guarantee I won't have this problem on my Lightning...

I have burning oil same crv too. Which oil type do you recommend to use?
@HristovRumen

@@eperez912 any time you see 0w20 or 5w20, just use full synthetic 5w-30. Your engine will thank you. And change every 8-10 000kms.

Why do u need a timing chain job at such relatively low mileage. ? Timing chain is designed to last the life of the engine.

Can I also use a chain wrench to hold the crank pulley to turn it 90°
@PhillipBailey
Жыл бұрын
I'd recommend the holding fixture as the chain wrench will either slip or damage the pulley. It is near 300ft lbs of torque to turn that bolt 90 degrees.

I take oil pans off and clean out old oil that remains in pans when doing these jobs unless it was done recently.....
@PhillipBailey
Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. This engine was pretty clean inside actually and I always stuff a rag into the front edge of the pan to keep debris from falling into it while cleaning.

@PhillipBailey oh ok 👍 I drive a 16 crv with 66000 miles on it. Drive and run just like new. But noticed a very very very tiny oil leaks on upper timing cover next to water pump . Do u recommend any repair? ? Shell I do replace the timing chain ⛓️ or just the timing cover replacement ? Please advise me your best recommendation. Thank you
@PhillipBailey

@ashrafsiddiquee3190 it's pretty hard without seeing the extent of the leak. Is it using oil, dripping while running? If it's just minor I'd probably recommend to wait until it worsens. Can you take a video of the leak.
@ashrafsiddiquee3190
Жыл бұрын
@PhillipBailey it's not a dripping leak or any clean leak. It's kind of oil degrees arround. I always check oil level on dipstick and not losing oil. It's definitely not dripping oil. Vehicle running great.

I have a 2015 CRV. 185000 miles. No codes, but getting a slight rattle. can you check the chain without taking the chain cover off?
@PhillipBailey
10 ай бұрын
Yes you can. At 4:00 min in the video you will see a small rectangular steel cover bolted to the timing cover with two 6mm bolts, 10mm heads. You can see the chain tensioner through that opening and see how far it has extended due to wear. I believe the spec it a max of 13mm but check the service manual.

@PhillipBailey

@kevinard84 At 4:00 minutes in the video, you will see a small plate on the left side of the crank pulley held on by two 6mm bolts. The tensioner is behind that cover and can be inspected and actually replaced through that opening.
