What's behind the logic on the Hinge drill at [0:55]? Is it focusing on going after the ball once it's thrown regardless of the assigned WRs position on the field? Or is the idea to work off an insuniated route without exhausting/hurting scout WRs? Or, more simply, is it just working the press into zone coverage and having the DB peel off?

Its so you can practice cover 2 peel or cover 2 sink. This allows you to practice with a WR doing an inside or outside release and helps you bait the QB. Call QB's know that on cover 2, a CB is supposed to push the wr inside and not follow. So the drill allows the DB to practice his disguise of following the WR in side more than usual or even letting the WR go to the outside; but allways having the DB cover their flat area.
