Fender vents are typically designed for cooling the brakes so it's interesting to see them cool the engine bay in this fashion 👍🏻

Agreed. And they would cool the brakes if they were ducted to the wheel well. The wheel splash tray blocks all that from happening and it’s a direct link up to the engine bay. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it. Good luck

Hi Marc, thanks for the comment I seriously appreciate it. Yes you can see the white and how I cut the fenders you can see the holes, however you ha e to really be looking at it and at an angle like standing at the door handle to see the white. The holes are only visible very close to the vent. I’ll post a picture in one of the Facebook groups. The only thing I’d do differently is I recently discovered the black rust prevent paint called “POR 15” and I’d paint this section with that I think to prevent corrosion (mine has none so far in winter) and to get the black concealing look. Thank you

cherios thank you for your comment. Yes it was primer and the duplicolor paint in Subaru white was from Canadian tire which is a local hardware store here in Canada. The colour was a Subaru pearl white from a generic supply, that’s not necessarily matched to my paint code. It’s very close in colour tho.

Did you notice alot of dirt in the engine bay after doing this? Also, instead of drilling holes in the body, why didn't you cut holes on the plastic trim to match up with those 2- oval and circle hole? Or cut holes in the interior plastic portion.
@snewstead1388
3 жыл бұрын
There is absolutely no dirt coming into the engine bay. The body holes that I cut gain access to the space that directly connects up to the engine bay. If you look in your engine bay on the top left and right of the fenders, there is a black felt cover. If you remove that and look down you can see these fender holes (after cut out) and light coming from them. You don’t want to cut in to the plastic fender liner because that will for sure get dirt in from the wheels, plus this isn’t an area you want air to come from. Hope that helps. Thanks for the comment

I wouldn't say this is a useless mod but you may not notice it much for daily driving. You'll have some (mild) change in heat in the engine bay, the real benefit though will be to the brake rotors. There's a reason that most track-spec subies have functional air vents, because it helps keep the brakes cool.

Have you noticed any problems resulting from this, any kind of dirt in the engine bay, do you have any way to measure temps? These vents USED to be functional in the 14' WRX, but for 15+ they blocked em off. I can't imagine why they'd do that unless they had good reason for it.
@snewstead1388
3 жыл бұрын
I only measured temps before and after the install and compensated for the ambient temperature. It’s about a 5 degree change for normal daily driving and I’m sure it would be more during high performance driving. I can feel the hot hot air coming from the vents when I stop and park the car. I had crazy different temperature changes from my 2 track day videos and I have temps all listed in those. As for dirt etc, nothing different from stock. The wheel well/fender liner blocks all the water/dirt and the OEM fender liner has water drains built into it from below. These vents are meant to vacuum air from the engine bay and are at an angle to not let dirt in especially not up to the engine bay. I hope that helps you. I’m in Canada and in the winter. We have wet melting slush snow roads right now there is nothing different for dirt from the vents. I hope that helps you. I see no disadvantage to doing this.
