This is a chronicle of my backcountry pack hunt in the Alpine for Sitka Blacktail deer. The hunt took place in August of 2016, with guide Eli Lucas (Alaska Coastal Hunting; www.emydonhunting.com). He and I climbed into the mountains with about week's supply of food and other essentials, in search of early season bucks.
It was a great adventure, and a challenge for me. The video is about the fullness of the experience, and includes footage of the ascent and our camp life, along with the pursuit of game. I think it tells the story of this particular type of hunt reasonably well. So, if you are hunter who - like me - includes hours of online video viewing as part of the "hunt research process", you might actually find it useful.
If you are watching this and you are not a hunter, then its probably you, Mom. Hi Mom!
For those who care about such things . . . the whole video was filmed using an Olympus TG-4 compact waterproof still and video camera - sometimes held in my hand, sometimes strapped to my pack, sometimes on a tiny flexible tripod - and occasionally overturned in the brush.
