Did you have to scotchbrite the ecoat bumper prior to paint?

The bumper actually isn't ecoat but a sprayed primer, and yes scotchbrite scuffed prior to paint

Etch primer is your friend in those situations. Epoxy is to slow. Hit those bare metals spots with one coat of etch, 5-8 minutes later you can prime them.

Etch primer should not be in contact with body filler. Epoxy is the best option and can be used in all situations. Throw the etch primer away.

@@samg5543 You can apply etch primer on bare steel around filler, even in contact with filler. You cant under any circumstances use body filler over etch. Maybe that is a Dupont thing. We have a PPG, Spies, and Sikken mixing machine in our shop. We have been using etch on bare steel, around filler, for 30+ years and never had one failure. We would never be able to get anything done if we used epoxy in that situation. We do use it, but really only on blasted metal.

@@sweetfarmsllc8886 2K etch would be acceptable in some instances, but 1K should never be used on anything that matters. If time is the issue, it would make more sense to use a DTM surfacer and eliminate that step entirely. That would be the fastest method, but I don't want to stock a primer that uses a different hardener than everything else I use that takes the same one. Thanks for watching.

@@samg5543 The DTM products are lacking in my opinion. We tried them and stop using them with in a few months. Most body shops in this area dont use epoxy, mainly because of time. We are certified for many different manufactures at our shop and they require we stay under certain mil builds on final repairs. You can find us at facebook.com/AutoBodySpecialistsInc/
