It is impossible to be happy on your own. certainly the key message of this evergreen. Carlos Jobim created this classic so long ago, and in this arrangement with these young people you can see that it is still true today. When so many people in harmony create something so great together, then you have to be happy and smile. Thank you 🎶👍

AFAIK, he has returned to classical music, ?during that year, 2016?. His sister (also on French horn) and he have ventured to Freiburg / Germany for studies and are/were(?) part of an international youth symphony orchestra. Perhaps we'll see and hear him at the upcoming festival?

Quizá algún día vuelva decididamente a serlo ... 😉

Every now and then I wonder: if Sax hadn't invented the saxophone, would the French horn or oboe be the go-to instrument for that register? Time on my hands.
@bruced47
@@garyedmondson2998 The French horn has a softer sound that works well with this tune. He played his solo very well, but it seems to me that players can get a greater variety of tones out of the saxophone than a French horn. Compare the tone of a John Coltrane with that of Paul Desmond, or of Stan Getz with Stanley Turrentine. Whether alto sax or tenor sax, the instrument can produce a wide variety of nuances and shadings.
@garyedmondson2998

Totally agree with all you say -- and it was a young Andrea Motis playing "Petite Fleur" on the soprano sax that introduced me to these fine folks. Nice and smooth. My idle musing was what would have taken the place of the sax in jazz (or rock 'n' roll -- Denis Payton!) if it hadn't been invented. After more than a hundred years, the saxophone still hasn't made much of an inroad on the classical scene. There are openings for jazz explorations with oboes and bassoons as well as French horns. Cristina Pato plays a helluva jazzy Galician bagpipe. Really.

Heh! Rita, by now brimming with confidence, pushes and pulls a hugely familiar tune and makes it her own, surprising even the Good Professor... Max sounds so good, leading from the front. A pity the sound crew didn't think to provide a little more gain for such a mellow instrument. (The Frahm version did this a little better).The French Horn is such a good choice here.
