I am new at this and, hopefully, I have successfully uploaded four videos of my dog having an 'Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC.)
Winston is a dog whom I rescued on March 21st, 2017 when he was, approximately 1 - 1.5 years old. I was told that he was owned by two hunters who heard that he had been collected by animal control but, then, did not bother to go get him and his time was running out at this particular animal control.
It was not until about 4 months later that I started to, perhaps, fully realize why these two men who co-owned (and never socialized) this beautiful guy just left him for animal control to pick up and, then, never went back for him.
He is a beautiful sweet dog who had a rough past - obviously - since he had never seen the inside of a home when I got him....meaning that even as a puppy he had faced some very cold weather outside in Northern Indiana.
During the cooler period, none of this happened. I was scared when it first happened in July 2017 when things started getting really hot. What would trigger it more often was whenever he was taken out for a romp in an area that did not offer swimming which could help cool him down.
At first, I was concerned about a neurologic disorder and, then, I considered some level of heat stroke. Finally, I arrived at the correct diagnosis: Exercised Induced Collapse.
Each event takes about 15 minutes or so for Winston to recover. I avoid these events by taking him out on the coolest part of the day in the summer - he never has them any other time - and always take him someplace where he can swim with his new sisters.
I just sit down with him and try to give him water but, most often, he really does not want that. Most times, when he has recovered, he just takes off - often as if nothing has happened and, other times, with his back legs a bit wobblier than when he started out.
