Well done video, thanks! Took me about 75 minutes to do it plus 30 minutes for cutting a hole for the hitch and positioning as mine didn't have the precut hole. More on that: For models that don't have the cutout for the hitch you can remove the bumper cover/under panel, then undo the 2 screws that hold the under panel to the bumper cover and use a trim tool to release the connectors between the two. Next cut a 3.5" wide by 4-5" deep hole in the under panel for the hitch to go through. Heavy duty snips will be needed though a dremmel might work. Slide the panel over the hitch to create a clean fit. Downside is it's pretty challenging to get those two screws back in place but with a helper moving the cover around it's not impossible. I'd recommend putting masking tape on the front corners of the bumper covers (low, closest to the tires) as the corner of the under panel can scratch as you position for getting those screws in. With one mountain bike on a 1upUSA rack I loose about 8-10% in range/efficiency.

Just finished installing this. Awesome explanation on how to install. Also be careful when putting the bumper back. Those metal clips scratched my car 🥲. Keep those in mind when putting the bumper back. I did the installation on my own without the ramps. Get help if needed and ramps. It’ll make it a lot easier. Thank you

Fantastic video. Thank you so much! Only video I have seen of this procedure that demonstrates putting everything back together -which can be quite tricky. The instructions that come with the hitch have dark pictures and horribly incorrect (it appears the hitch is to be installed in front of the bumper, not behind it. This was super helpful. As others have said - best instructional video I have watched.

Great video! Couple things different from my experience with a 2019 Model 3. There are 4 additional 10mm screws holding the plastic pan underneath which must be removed to take off the rear fascia. Second, I was unable to re-install the 6 plastic clips inside wheel wells after trying for over an hour. Have called Tesla to come put them in. I expect you must use new ones each time or maybe have some special tool.

Occasionaly the Manufacturer uses a bolt that stays in the Plastic even after all threads have released from the Nut behind it. You can then simply pull the trim away, then line up the bolt and re Install when finished.

WAAIIIIITTTT!!! Great video, but you forgot the most important things… 1. How much does it cost? 2. How much can it tow? And 3. What about trailer lights?
@trailerhitches
2 жыл бұрын
1. Rates differ per State, so follow this link to get a quote: uhaulhitches.com 2. This hitch is rated for 2,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 300 lbs tongue weight. 3. We don't have a video for the wiring. This was for a bike rack, so they did not need it. You'd need a universal kit for the wiring, so you can follow the install video for the Tesla Model S (uses the same kit you'd use here). kzitem.info/news/bejne/w6x3nWd8hX-Va4I

Very good installation video, however, I was here mainly to find out if this hitch can actually tow anything, because of how low it is and also how to do the wiring for a trailer. Can you guys clarify please?
@trailerhitches
2 жыл бұрын
This hitch does sit lower than recommended for towing, however, if you are moving a lighter trailer with a lighter cargo, it will be fine. You just have to be cautious of your terrain you are driving on if there are bumps and hills.

@@trailerhitches i actually purchased your hitch and also an adaptor which is raised instead of lowered, this will actually compensate for this issue I think. Thanks for your reply!

The electricl connection that is removed @6:24 controls all these. Confirm it wasnt left unplugged or that it is seated properly. It is easy to plug them together but without fully connecting. If Possible check for bent pins inside the Male connecter( Vehicle side i think).

Bad experience having mine installed. Cost $747 including the 2 inch ball. I was scheduled to have it installed in Natomas (Sacramento) on July 1th at 8:00am i called the day before to see if I could just drop my car off the night before and was told no I could not;.They then informed me that the harness was back order-e3d and would not arrive until July 28th. I talked with the manager who agreed to check the other U-haul places to see if they could get one from them. I was called back in an hour and was informed that they succeeded and to bring my car in at 7:30am which I did. I was then told they do not install tow packages in Natomas but I had to go to Florin Road about 18 miles south and they would not be open until 9:00 AM. I was there at the appointed hour and was told to wait they would have it finished in one hour. As I had watched a number of youtube vids I knew it would take a lot more than one hour. They then agreed and said they would have it finished by 4:00 PM and would call so I could Uber down to pick it up. I arrived at 4PM and waited until 7:00 pm when they finished it. The next day I found they had left tools in the trunk including a Milwaukee Impact wrench. I have yet to haul anything with it and I am quite anxious awaiting that day.

Tesla installations can be on the pricier side due to the length of labor. However, the labor charge is a flat time charge. So even if the installation takes longer than the quoted time, your price will stay the same.

This Video as well as hitch #CMF13449 will fit a 2023 Tesla Model 3. However, It does appear as the 2024 Model 3 has changed slightly, and at this time there is not yet confirmation this hitch will fit a 2024 Model 3. So hopefully you have a 2023 and not the 2024.

Seek advice before you tow anything with a Tesla or other EV! The size and weight of some trailers can produce too much kinetic energy which can 'overwhelm' the electrical system and possibly void the warranty.
@trailerhitches
Жыл бұрын
Spot on! Tesla's, like every other vehicle have a tow capacity that you should never go over, regardless of hitch rating. Visit your local U-Haul to find out what you can and cant tow!
