+lapamful- while I acknowledge that the numbers don't lie (as in, this 6 banger makes more power)...it is hard to accept. Nothing sounds like a v-8. My recommendation would be for Ford to use an EB v-8...then we'll all be happy (and have even more power). Perhaps that is what they are planning for the future...small improvements over time with the EB 5.0 for the 2019?

Good work Roman! It was nice to see all of the skid plates and the view from under the truck! To me, this truck really is an entirely different truck from the first Raptor. The Raptor that TFL has been using the past few years is a cool, old school, off-road muscle truck, while the new one still has impressive numbers and capabilities, but it is a different beast! I thought you calling it more of a sports car is very fitting! I can't wait to see all of your other tests off-road with this truck!

man, the eco boost is already not known for reliability and get far lower MPG under load / real world when compared to N/A V8's. : / but ford keeps trying to push the TTV6 onto their truck buyers. they should have put the 5.2L Voodoo V8 in here, would have been amazing and likely got better reliability + real world MPG.

My Transit van has the TTV6 with 3.73 rear end. The thing is a rocket ship and its not this H.O. version. The Voodoo supercharged would be awesome as an option . I'd personally like the Super Cab with a bench in the front and a 3.7 Naturally Aspirated V6 mated to the new 10 speed transmission. And the Ford version of the RAM Box. Those side bins on the RAM's are awesome.

I am the first to say they sound like a toy and not like mine with the Corsa exhaust but the sound of fast and the sound of powerful is changing. Look at all the people that are buying current 3.5 liter engines as the upgrade, they are here to stay. I am curious as to how Roman your getting 14 mpg in yours as I sit here parked I am looking at 11.2 average over 42,264 miles. Living in Dallas mine doesn't see much off-roading. My thoughts are its you Roman, the V8 would have probably given the similar savings in economy considering the weight savings. All the people complaining about it not having a V8 were probably the same people that complained when EFI came out. It makes power, you can turn up the boost, it gets better fuel economy, and it's in compliance with current emissions standards. Be happy that comapines can still make these trucks with the strict standards that are placed upon them. Get over it. The future is here.

Wow some people commenting have no idea. The ONLY negative thing about the V6 EcoBoost engine over the 5.4/6.2 V8 is the lack of that awesome V8 rumble. That's it. Otherwise this engine makes more power and does it sooner in the lower RPM's as well. Also when climbing mountains you lose power with the NA V8 engine as you gain attitude and lose air density but you won't with a turbocharged engine. I've got a small SUV with an ecoboost and love it. I've also got a Mustang GT that I turbocharged. I love the V8 rumble but I'd be willing to compromise with this truck.

Paul Maly yeah the trx would be cool and chrysler would be stupid not to build it in some way. maybe with the 6.4 or the 5.7. like a upgraded version of the rebel

tyler boyer I looking forward What decision will Chrysler do. I hope, because TRX with 6.2 supercharged HEMI will be great rival for the Raptor.

Paul Maly i will definitely buy it or the power wagon have not decided yet. i think the 6.2 supercharged will drive the price way up compared to the 6.4 or the 5.7

I wonder if this new Raptor is faster 0 to 60 than a SC Tundra since it lost 500 pounds

My money is on the Raptor--all in! The Raptor may be 50hp down but it's about 400 pounds lighter than the Toyota. And let's not talk about when those $400 dollar big boost tunes start coming out. Want to get crazy for around $2K? Throw in a little enchilada with intake and exhaust and we're probably talking 650HP Raptors hunting around. You know that most people are going to at least tune the new Raptor. Remember, the Tundra SC is $6K performance kit that you still need to install.

We have a 6.2 raptor and we fucking love it It's the absolute best truck on earth Like he said I'll gladly sacrifice that tiny bit of extra gas mileage for that natural V8 sound I'm not exactly a religious guy but our 6.2 is how you talk to god And I can garuntee you that we won't be trading in the Raptor any time soon Even for a new one

Hate the exhaust note - at least from the outside! I hope it isn't as whiney sounding inside. The old 6.2V8 sounded sooooo good!

There were 3 0-60 runs in the review. One was 7.01 (uphill) the others were 6.26 and 5.80 - well within your range of expectation.

This test wasn't scientific. Other tests say low-mid 6s, which is much better. Still, consider the power numbers, the complexity of this engine, the higher price tag, the lightweight aluminum body, the 10 speed, etc.,etc., it's actually not that great. The previous Raptor was doing mid 6s without any of that, so I don't see why this isn't significantly better.

Yeah the 2017 F150 3.5L is 375hp and 470ft-lbs-tq and it does 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. I'm guessing this one is much heavier and with much larger heavier wheels... I'll wait for the magazines to test the 0-60 as the equipment they use is much more accurate.

I get so tired of these old guys and their fixation on 0-60 and handling. I am not adverse to the two but this is a truck and he is constantly complaining that it is not a sports car. It just sounds not smart! You really need younger reviewers that are more well rounded and understand different types of buyers.

Wish they would re-engineer the old 300 and turbo charge it, kinda like what our Australian ford did with our 4.0 Barra engine.

Okay, sure the sound may not be what you're looking for, but with all of the EPA regulations, many cars are going utilizing this technology soon enough. Moreover, if the engine sound overshadows the fact that it's faster, more powerful, and gets better MPG than the previous models, I wonder if you care about what really matters.

The major reason that it gets better gas mileage isn't because it has a turbo V-6. It's because it has 10 gears vs the 6 in the old one and it weight 500lbs less. If it had a V-8 the difference would be minimal
@DoRC

I think most people would much prefer a v8. Ford just doesn't want to spend the money on developing one. I think the awesome thing would have been to put a smaller v8 with a turbo in it.

If they're going to "make" the engine noise, make it sound like the Jetson's car.
