If you’re out and about the fine folks at Ford said you could also plug the heater in a small portable generator

Just bought a used 2013 F550 because it had very low miles. I'm irritated because it won't start. I'm guessing the glow plugs need replacing along with the fuel filter. How long does it take for the block to warm up? I'm in an apartment and could never leave an extension cord running to the truck over night. I plan to plug it up in the morning before work. Thanks for the vid.

First mistake is you live in an apartment buying a commercial grade truck without the knowledge to with it. Second mistake is not reading your owners manual. Folks, I've been a mechanic for 35 years and I swear to batflipping god all you have to do is fucking read the manual. That's how we fix your shit. We aren't magical, we just read and diagnose it.

Good video. Living in NE Pennsylvania, I've gotten some good use from my block heater on my older 6.0 F 350. May I suggest to tuck the cord connection back into the bumper to keep some moisture from sitting in the connection, I've done that for years and never had an issue. Did you ever do a video on treating your ultra-low sulfur diesel for the winter?

How much power would it consume? I have a portable battery, Jackery 200W, and wondering if that would work to power up the heater for two hours - Or do I need a larger battery? (I have a camper, so I cant rely on plugging into a home)

Great video, learned something! I have a question about the coolant temp. It shows above your gauge. In my 2017 F350, it only shows the gauge. Is there an easy way to show the temp? Thanks

Block heater recall. Got one in the mail today. I would suggest not using it until you get take your truck in. Possibility of wires overheating and starting fires.

Let me ask you a dum question. I notice with bigger trucks they never have any heat inside of the truck example Mack trucks, tow trucks 18 wheelers. If you was to use this heater for your truck would you get heat inside of your truck for you and your family or no?
@AdventuringToday

Good question. Diesel engines have big, heavy blocks and typically very large oil capacities (6.7 from ford is 13 quarts...big rigs are even more!). So starting the engine in the morning on a cold day like you would with a gasoline engine does very little to provide warmth to the passenger area. You really have to drive the trucks to generate any heat to provide warmth. The block heater give the engine a head start by warming the coolant and this helps warm the engine quicker. The 6.7 from Ford won't really generate heat until the oil is up to about 100 Degrees F.

Mate, "block heater" is NOT "coolant heater" . It heats the BLOCK, and NOT coolant. That's not a Webasto thingy. And Webasto has separate (coolant) water and air heaters. FYI Cheers 👍
@ronball81

Correct, it heats the Engine Block and everything in it... Not the coolant.... Coolant is made to COOL the engine..
@Silver_1
2 жыл бұрын
Wrong, it heats the coolant. Look at installing or replacing one. There is a plug with a gasket on the passenger side of the block that gets replaced with the heater element. When you go to install it or replace it, you have to do it quick to minimize the amount of coolant you loose. Usually a couple of quarts of coolant.

@@Silver_1 I guess you try to say coolant in the block, which is not far from the true. Yet, out of context
