Thanks for documenting this, seen and read about this a number of times but always thought my 18’ was just fine. Rung my hands for a bit, went for a ride and followed your vid exactly. Wow! Just the shift from 1st to 2nd gave it away.. all the shifts up and down are much smoother, wish I’d have done this sooner, thank you!

Smashing, just did this at work as the engine was nice and warm. Kept bluetooth headphones on and completed the process simultaneous to yourself. PS I agree, the 2017 africa twin is a fantastic bike

Thanks for tutorial mate. I have 61k km on mine 2020 ATAS and never did DCT reset before. Shifting are much smoother after reset. Thanks again and I confirm this tutorial works on newer models as well.

To my surprise, this actually works. I didn’t realize how clunky the DCT had gotten on my 2017 Africa twin. I’m hoping that with this reset it will negate my occasional stall on first throttle. it really does make it shift smoother again. Thank you!

You are welcome. The procedure is directly taken from the Honda factory shop manual. With your stall issue, is that in initial start up ? If so, I’d recommend doing a few things: 1) Throttle position sensor reset (KZitem video on that somewhere), 2) clean the starter button inside the right switch gear and use dialectic grease on it 3) make sure the front air box drain tube is emptied regularly (strange as it seems it helped my bike, I have no idea why)

I've got nearly 90k km on my 2018 DCT Africa Twin and was starting to get worried about having to replace the clutch but after seeing this I'm lot more hopeful . I have to say though that I'm kinda nervous about doing it as this is my only mode of transport ..

Is this also relevant for the engine to downshift or change the gear more efficient or is just a display problem? Thanks for the video!
@true-moto-resto

This is not about the display, its about making sure the bike upshifts and down shifts more smoothly

I wonder if the process is the same for the 2017 Africa Twin Adventure Sports dct model??

I would think so Id bet if it’s a 2017 they’re all the same. What ever the year your bike is , the procedure is in the factory shop manual which you can likely find online

Have you tried switching between D, S1, S2 and S3 using the right bar switch selector ? That will alter what rpm it shifts at. Sounds like maybe you’re in “D” and may benefit from something like “S2” I find “D” upshifts way too early and down shifts way too late. My preferred mode is S2 Hope that helps. The DCT reset I do here is more related to the smoothness of the shifting and not related to the rpm the bike shifts at.

@@ruston723 d3 or S3? I have never heard of D3 on a 2017 DCT. If you are in S3, I’d recommend going on to the Africa Twin forum, there is a post there somewhere that tells you the upshift and downshift rpm for D,S1,S2, and S3. Then you can see if your bike is shifting according to spec. If not I’d start by changing the DCT filter and the engine oil and filter. Some guys run 10w40, but I run only 10w30 since that’s what the manual recommends for the DCT. You could also try a DCT reset, it won’t hurt it to try.

Hello sir how does s and d indicators go away?
@true-moto-resto
8 ай бұрын
Look at the video between 3:20 and 3:35 The S and D will go away and the N will come back once the bikes computer has competed the reset process. If your D and S don’t go away, you have done something incorrectly . If u follow the instructions at the end of the video EXACTLY it will work. Make sure your OIL temperature is normal and warmed up (not coolant temp). Have the bike vertical not on the side stand. Make sure the cooling fan is NOT running, the follow along with the video or follow the instructions at the end from the Honda manual
