my 2016 renegade trailhawk is lightyears superior to my '02 liberty. Solid, you don't seem to realize...it's not a car, especially a sports car. you can't expect it to drive like one.

I feel like your misunderstanding the power and transmission of this vehicle. Its made to get you as best gas mileage as possible on road while making it somewhat capable offroad. Fast shifting and sporty power are irrelevant here. Everything else though i agree with you more or less.

No that 9 speed ZF gearbox is known to be pretty bad, and that is regardless of manufacturer; although FCA's programming seems kind of lackluster in terms of shifting. Honda uses the same unit in the Pilot, MDX, Odyssey, and some of their other products, and it has reliability issues, it is slow to shift, indecisive, and in general not that great despite how well they tend to design vehicles. It is rumored Volvo purposefully avoided using that 9 speed box in their vehicles because it is such a problem child. The 8 speed ZF gearbox that FCA uses in the Challenger (BMW, Audi, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, among others also use it) is a much better system and manages to be sporty at times and still offer decent fuel economy. You are right somewhat about the quest for MPGs, but that particular transmission just seems like a flawed design compared to what else is on the market.

Yes, I think a six speed auto would be better, but considering the last auto I had was a 3 speed, I just love the manual shifting option. I use that most.

I've had a Wrangler and for off-roading it is superior but rides like a log wagon and way over priced for the stripped down base model. The Renegade Desert Hawk is the one I have now and it is loaded with options and it is exactly what I needed. I love it and to be honest I would not trade it for a base Wrangler. If you want a sports car get a sports car but don't give the Renegade a shit review because it's not a sports car but it is very adequate for what it was designed for.

First off, the transmission isn't made for manual shifting. It's made to select the highest gear the transmission will shift into. And there's nothing more annoying than someone who reviews a car like the renegade, and then compares it to a wrangler. Whole different segment

Sorry. I wholeheartedly and unabashedly disagree with everything you said. The low RPM is set that way for great fuel economy while cruising. It's people like you, cruising at 2700 RPM on the highway at 73 mph that keep repair shops in business.

You can't really compare the driving characteristics of a WRX with a Renegade. I got rid of my 2015 WRX for a 2016 Renegade. I don't do any off-roading, but I do drive in a lot of snow. I hated driving my WRX in the winter because of the ground clearance and dodging the snow/ice chunks in the road. The only time I miss my Subie is when I have to pass another car. The Renegade is fun and quirky. :)

wizeguiz I’m considering getting rid of my evo bc it’s been nothing but a money drain. Very certain the last person modded it and abused it and I’ve invested 6000$ fixing it in the 2 years of having it. Love my evo and it is my dream car but all the money I’ve poured into is just not worth it. Going to check out a renegade today and hope it’s big enough for me. Would go for a 4dr wrangler but not really finding many I like close by

I have a Renegade Trailhawk, excellent car. Walks on almost all terrains. Lots of comfort. In the mud you need appropriate tires, those that come from the factory do not help. See mine in action: kzitem.info/news/bejne/s615uaVrr2Rhraw

Okay so a few things. That center gauge cluster is the exact same style as on my A6 just smaller and with fewer functions (both for good and bad). Same goes for the "cornering light". My A6 has the full LED lighting package (bloody $1700 standalone option when it was new) where there are 9 separate individual projector housings in each light. Because of the complexity of the assembly they only autolevel and don't swivel so it does the same thing around corners. (It is kind of useful I suppose.) I also have an electric parking brake and to be honest I like it. It means nobody ever over torques the handbrake and as a result I imagine you don't have to worry about adjusting the parking brake cable over time as much. Plus for people that haven't driven stick and don't always enable the parking brake it is a nice safety measure to have it automatically engage. Secondarily you never have to worry about forgetting to disengage it and driving with your parking brake on. Finally, for people like my Mom with knee or leg problems (especially anyone older) it is much easier to operate than the foot pedal operated design you see in some vehicles. And my ZF gearbox is the same on downshifts even on the better 8hp unit. Normally it will wait till you slow down to shift down, but Chrysler's software is apparently more of a nanny than Audis; as you should have been able to shift to 6th at that RPM range. Mine just keeps you from shifting down at a range beyond the engine's redline before you slow down.

Seeing as my A6 is a Prestige trim car that originally stickered for just under seventy grand... I would hope so given it cost 2.5x as much new. Kind of impressive that FCA is able to give you that much stuff at that price point I suppose. I may not like the Wrangler much personally (especially as a daily driver), but you have to respect all of the off-road utility it offers for a relatively reasonable amount of money. I just think it sacrifices too much livability to achieve that. The issue with the Renegade is that it tends to place style over substance, and it is not really that good at any one thing (other than being stylish I guess?) in the same way that a Wrangler is. Well that and those jerrycan inspired X shaped taillights just make me think that Jeep designed it to look cute broken down on the side of the road one day.

I agree with everyone else. You really can't compare the two. Two different beast all together. If they could make a Wrangler that road as well on the Freeway and got the same gas millage as the rene., then I would buy it in a heart beat. Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too.

If you are in manual shift mode in low gears, will it let you keep it in gear for higher RPMs and UP shift when you're ready allowing higher RPMs before the shift? Just wondering if it overrides the upshift like when downshifting. Thanks
