I currently have a 2017 650. A lot more comfortable than my old 300. When on the highways, I wish I had gotten the 636 instead.....until 45 minutes into the ride and I realize I could keep riding for hours because it’s so comfortable. This are two totally different machines made for two totally different purposes. If I had to do it all over again, I would have started with the 650 instead of the 300, paid off the 650 as fast as I could and bought the 636 as a second bike. I’ve also been considering moving up to the Ninja 1000. Best of both worlds.

Would be a great starter bike, Easy to release the "Lams" mode when a bit more power is required and confidence has built. Good for around town riding and at a pretty good price also. Had a bit of a squirt with one not long ago on my 636, he had a bit there, and more than enough for a new rider.
@hooshd

To answer your question in the video (as an Aussie who has lived in the US I understood it): there's no LAMS licensing scheme there. You can ride anything once you have your license, which you can get by just passing a written test and taking a two day course (very similar to the one in Australia). It's why people on Reddit often ask things like "should I get an R1 as my first motorcycle? I'm afraid I'll get bored of an xyz". Many choose something like the (unrestricted) Ninja 650, or an R6, or a Harley Sportster as their first bike. Or whatever they want. Because freedom, baby! (Also, on that note, helmets aren't mandatory in the majority of states.)

Aha, Sunshine Coast TeamMoto! Great blokes, bought a Hyosung GT650r from them, it blew up when i moved down to NSW but buying a Hyo i was asking for that anyway. If you haven't already, go to Mapleton through Nambour, some really nice road there and a short burst or two of some good sharper twisties, best place to build confidence in the corners and isn't much more than a short trip up the road!

Ps. Anyone looking to purchase the zx6r. The power band starts at like 8k rpm compared to 10k to 12k on the R6. Zx has a few extra ponies as well. A tuned zx will be 110 115hp compared to the 2017 r6 at 103hp, friend has one that's how I know. Love this bike, it's comfortable and when the power hits, it's like a light switch. Only grip,...$13k for a 600 class bike is kinda steep.

I went from a 1000cc super naked to a ninja 650. I love it. It has plenty of power and corners like crazy. I don't miss the power, the light weight makes up for it. You can upgrade the front suspension with a valve kit and new springs, transforms the bike. Unless you are on a racetrack with LONG straights, a supersport is not the right bike(SV 650's hold nearly all the small track records). Once I replace the junk stock tires I bet it will be even better.

Yes You missed some important things in my opinion: you compared horsepower, rpm range but the only thing You said about torque is that 'the torque is different'. In technical comparison of two bikes the fact that TORQUE IS VERY SIMILAR (66-71) in both of them is so important to me. Parallel engine has also better curve of torque which is priceless for everyday riding. The fuel consumption is also much lower in ninja 650, but You missed that too. ZX6r-track, ninja650-everyday use.

I suppose to newbies the engine size determines the speed however the 636 inline four is a race bike whereas the 650 parallel twin is a commuter. Yes engines can be moded etc but determine what you want from the bike including budget and your license status and narrow your search. The 650 will feel like plenty until you are next at the lights next to the 636 and get smoked haha
@stocke75
5 жыл бұрын
but you won't be smoked....they are almost exactly the same speed 0-60mph so the only time the 636 is going to be faster is generally when you are speeding. The extra horsepower comes in at higher rpms

1. In the U.S. there is no lams class - you can go out and buy an H2R as your first bike if you're stupid enough to do so. :) 2. You can add a Power Commander to the 650, but it really doesn't give much more power. The main difference that people seem to actually notice is that it changes the "injector cut-off" profile, giving you a much smoother throttle without the abrupt on-off jerking that the stock fueling profile has. Fuel economy goes down slightly, but at low speeds it makes the bike nicer to ride in my opinion. 3. Yeah, the CB650F is a 4-cylinder beginner-friendly bike from Honda, basically like the Yamaha FZ6R.

I think he's meaning it's an appropriate bike if you're learning, because the powerband is forgiving. Someone who's learning will find it much harder to get into serious trouble on the Ninja 650. Some bikes are just a better choice for a new rider for that reason. A linear powerband the tops out around 70hp is great for someone learning
@Ghostwarriorz25

GENOCIDE well it is a learner bike when it comes to countries such as Australia where this is filmed, because we can’t have full powered bikes where the largest we can have is like A 660. So the ninja 650L is a learner bike.

I've ridden a Honda 2014' CBR 500 and a 2004' Zx6r, and I loved being on the Zx6r more, I enjoyed being on the bigger bike, and frankly felt safer being on a bigger bike. HyenDry the 650 is far more maneuverable in general then the zx6 is speaking from experience. 650r will also have better off the line punch then the zx6 but above 7k rpm the 650 falls flat. Your actually safer on a smaller decently powered bike then a bigger more powerful bike, your thinking is a little backwards. Go test both before you buy anything strongly recommend looking at other brands like as well like triumph street triple or honda cb650 etc. The street triple would give the zx6r a run for its money be more comfortable, handle better and cost less....and I'm not hating on kawasaki I own 4 bikes 3 are kawasakis

Yea about 130hp at the fly wheel. It would be about 100hp at the back wheel.

It's 113 to the wheel. Throwing incorrect figures does nobody any sort of good. I already linked the dyno sheet from the shootout a comment above yours.

You are right. Wiki says for 2013+ 636 model - 112hp at the wheel, 129hp at crank, 135hp at crank (with ram air)

A supersport vs a lightweight sport bike is like a lamborghini gallardo VS toyota corolla.

This guy doesn't know anything about the bikes, he said the 650 is a twin engine which is a lie

Two totally different bikes though lol. I have a 16 ZX6 and just bought a 2020 Ninja 400 KRT in May as a commuter bike. I looked at the Z400,900,1k, Ninja 650 and even the Vulcan S which is a Ninja 650 power train in a cruiser style frame. I ended up with the Ninja 400 because it’s so light and nimble, the riding position is perfect and for commuting purposes as someone who likes super sports it’s a good fit. After putting some mileage on it now I can ride it every bit as hard on the street as my ZX6 and have just as much fun. I’ve made minimal modifications and it’s really a great daily now. I think as a main bike a Z1k would be fun as well, but these riding positions and mannerisms are a lot different than the traditional super sports so you can’t really compare them.
