I needed some help and guidance on the below NEC code for clothes closet lights. “Surface-mounted fluorescent or LED luminaires shall be permitted to be installed within the storage space where identified for this use.” The electrical inspector wont approve my cloth closet lights (fully enclosed) on the basis that the box/package of the light did not state that the light can be used in the cloth closet. He believes that the last phrase of the code i.e. “identified for this use” means that the box/instruction guide must state that it is fit for purpose. I have checked all stores (Home Depot, lowes etc.) and online but couldn’t find any light that specifically says that. This is super frustrating as i have been failed my inspection twice on these grounds. No other license electrician believes that this is the requirement but my township inspector is adamant. Please help if this is really a requirement and if it is, where i can find such lights.
