Joe visits the annual Renner Stock Farm Plow and Threshing Day where vintage tractors, steam engines along with teams of draft horses, mules and oxen demonstrate farming of yesteryear.
He interviews various teamsters throughout the video.
Don Beckmeyer attends with his wagon and threshing machine. He steps us through the whole process of threshing wheat. Great footage of the threshing machine at work. He explains how the conveyor works as well as the cylinder that knocks the kernes off and the seed off the hull. Close ups of the inside of the threshing machine help us to see how it works. Lastly, he shows us the weigh bucket and how it works to measure a set amount of seed before tripping the machine.
Beautiful footage of draft mule and draft horse teams plowing and discing with vintage farm implements. We see 2-up, 3-up, 5-up and 6-up teams of Percherons and Belgians.
John Hood woks with his team of two white mules. At home he logs, pulls and does a lot of wagon rides.
Robin Holtgrewe has a team of three Percherons. She uses them for shows and wagon rides at home.
STeeve Hoover shows his team of two 2-year-old Brown Swill oxen. He uses them for logging firewood, some discing ands shows. He explains how he trained them and the importance of keeping them as a working team and not getting two domesticated. The team is very personable and loves attention.
We see a little footage of the pull portion of the event.
Last we see teamster hitching two teams of 4-up hooked to a cultimulcher. Then we get to see them working the field.
