From my understanding, everytime you hop in or start your engine, by default your car is in engage in TRACTION ON. Pushing that button will engage auto lsd. Pushing it again and holding it down for 3 or 4 seconds, the light on dash will be lit meaning it engaged OFF. At this stage, you can definitely do donuts, no electronics disabling you. As I saw once, in tundra forums. When you hop in, you have a nanny. Once you hold down 3 4 seconds, nanny is gone. Donuts time lol. Just got my tacoma OR in cement. Coming from tundra 2wd. Still learning my taco by the day. Good day every1

Woow! Thanks for the video. It was digging a whole in my head for months. When my toyota prado (with 2.7L gasoline engine) was stuck, I put it on 4Lo and traction control was automatically off, but then when I kicked the throttle pedal to the bottom, rpm didn't go over 2,000 rpm and car was still stuck. It was really strange. It happened twice. No idea what was happening. I was thinking it was most likely due to an underpowered/small engine problem and was thinking about changing my vehicle, for months. Evidently the idea is that a quick press of the button does disable traction control, however the brakes in the back will slow the faster spinning wheel to act more like a locked differential. That's probably why it felt like there was less power in the turns. Nice to see that you have the option to disable that though.

Just pressing that button turn the stability control off but leaves the auto LSD which works as traction control on. If you hold the button down it disables all forms of traction aid so the engine can rev and wheels can spin without restriction. In sand and mud you want everything turned off cause momentum is key!
@pbillings808
5 жыл бұрын
2wd is just bad for the sand. You need LSD without throttle limiting, but that isn't implemented. Totally off is an open diff, so if one wheel spins, practically no power goes to the other wheel. Lose your momentum and you're done. Going to need 4wd at that point.

the auto lsd is not activated thats why it couldnt get out. traction control restricts how much throttle can be used down to about 5% throttle until the computer feels no slipping at all when you press the traction control button once the auto lsd engages and brakes the slipping wheel enough to send power to the other wheel then it will do it to the opposite wheel to force them to mach the speed and throttle is not restricted at all but the abs works hard to make the wheels match speed like an lsd. i been in thick mud in my fwd rav4 and auto lsd got me out so i think your using it wrong everyone gets traction control and auto lsd confused traction control is not for this traction control is more for a slippery wet road thats where traction control will work better auto lsd is for getting unstuck from mud or snow or sand

@deano_s2k

The Auto LSD is what you were feeling with the rear brakes locking up. It uses the brakes to simulate a Limited Slip differential. You would want to use this when you want to slide in sand or snow sideways and not want to use 4wd. For eg, sometimes here in Toronto we have steep driveways and in the winter time can get icy. If my truck gets stuck I can toss on Auto LSD and thats usually enough traction to get me up without having to engage the 4wd system.

Toyota has 2 different systems, traction control TC and electronic stability control ESC. When you were trying to slide the car and said it was locking the rear wheels thats ESC kicking in. When you were stuck and the power was being cut thats TC kicking in. ESC uses power and brakes to keep you from sliding sideways and TC just cuts power to keep the wheels from spinning. You are correct in holding the button down to turn both off. When my toyota was put in 4 low it shut both off automatically.

Little tip for all you watching, offroading in any conditions turn it off completely before you hit the terrain and if ur going in sand like he was be in 4 HI already because getting stuck in 2wd then trying to get into 4hi will possibly damage ur transfercase...the proper way to engage the 3rd gen tacomas 4wd is moving on the fly and it will engage instantly...4hi and trac off (hold for 5seconds) is the best thing to be in..dont get stuck in 2wd then go to 4hi because if u cant move and get it locked in ur done.

its a sport, it doesn't have the good traction control. The auto LSD sucks, tried it a few times and it does nothing, and that's what you're feeling with the brakes. The traction aids in the off road like I have are worth it though. I haven't tried the mud setting on MTS yet but the rock setting works amazing. I keep it on all the time when I'm off, and it lets me crawl up rocks no problem. All the places where others spun their wheels that didn't have lockers or the MTS I just crawled up. As soon as my rear wheel came off in one spot I got video of you see it spin for a split second then stop and the other wheel that was on the ground pulled me up right away.

You're flat out wrong. Traction control will get you out. It behaves like a lsd. Turn off the traction control. You'll go open diff and go nowhere. I took my 06 fwd highlander with 265/70/16 bfg KM3s into the farm field with traction control off And got stuck in the deep snow. I was stuck between 10AM to 4pm. Shovel all the snow underneath, Got a farmall super a cold started and failed to haul it out because of the ice underneath. This time I turned on my traction control and went low gear and reverse. I slowly got out and back to the gravel road. I was very surprised how the traction control performed. Its also the mud tires too. I'd still be stuck with all season tires. On your truck, you got all season tires and you're on sand. If you air down to 20psi. You might get out. But all terrain and mud tires play a big role in the offroad....
