Charles It will be interesting to see how the depreciation curve looks on the older versions of the Model S. Stay tuned!

Great review.... I agree with your conclusion, would rather have a 911 turbo vs a p100d. The weirdest part about the tesla model s was no blind spot monitors by the mirrors and no cross traffic alert.

TurgBurglar I just couldn't pull the trigger on a P100D knowing I could get a Turbo for about the same money.

Thanks for watching guys! Like I mentioned in the video, I think Teslas are priced too high. Do you agree? If so, what do you think they should be priced at?

Looking forward to that depreciation video. I'm thinking 55k for a 3 or 4 year old P85 is about right, but most of those don't have autopilot.

I agree. I can't see choosing the S over a comparably priced vehicle. I mean Porsch Turbo vs. Tesla...Porsche anyday everyday.

I really enjoy the Teslas, but something is holding me back from saying they are worth the price. Perhaps the slow recharging is the big problem for me.

Yeah maybe I was too harsh. My gfriend really loves them cars but I am Porsche loyal. But I still think Tesla kind of copped out and designed the S P100 to sort fit a market between true sports car and regular daily driver which I don't like. I mean less then 2.8 sec 0 to 60 yet a four door? I think they should have a car that possesses pure sports car specs designed solely for the sport car market. MHO.

james liu The new Tesla Roadster will fit that segment. After they get all the Model 3 orders out the door.

james liu completely agree. Plus the handling characteristics between the two could not be more different.

I was using my 911 turbo as my daily driver for more than 10 years. Enjoyed it. Those who drive them on sunny Sundays and accumulate 10k miles on them, manage to miss the futility of the very frequent maintenance it requires. Now that I got the S P90D, the Porsche is resting in my garage. When I take it out, it feels like a tractor. - and I love cars, I rebuilt the engine of my '64 dodge when I was a student in the seventies...

I'm not really concerned with recharging speed personally, these kinda cars are more like cellphones rather than cars you take to the gas station: You get home, you plug it in for the night, you come back in the morning to a full "tank" of charge, pretty much never have to take a half hour detour to a station and spend on gasoline with that lifestyle change in mind. Only exception would be long trips, but if the car can go ~200 miles then it's still not that bad imho; The driver still needs to take a half hour break every few hours anyway to stretch and grab a bite, for the sake of personal health if nothing else.

I think if I wanted on to commute to work and use it around town, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's a 6+ hour drive for me to get to my hometown in the middle of no where West Virginia. There's no Supercharger anywhere near there. Besides, when I'm on big trips like that, I'd rather stop for five minutes, refuel, and go. With the current technology, that's not just possible.

JP & Co. You said you had 3 people inside the car and that there was a slight incline. Yet, you point out it "is a bit slower that the claimed 2.3 seconds 0-60mph time"?! Help me out here, brother!
@JPandCompany

What do you mean? Going up hill and having the extra weight in the car makes it slower to 60mph.
@tmat04

JP & Co. Read my comments again. I think you're smarter than that. If I were in your position, having tested the Tesla P100D with 3 people inside and along a road that has an incline, I would not state that the car "IS SLOWER than the claimed 2.3 seconds." Rather, I would've simply point out that I did not achieve the claimed 2.3 seconds during my 0-60mph acceleration test, because there were 3 people inside and the test was conducted along an incline. It makes a difference, buddy! I am not implying that the extra weight and the incline along the road does not make the car accelerate slower. I completely understand it does. But, you tested it under such conditions, but you still conclude it is slower. That is all I am saying.

What you're saying I "should" have said, is exactly what I did. I concluded it was slower because of the extra weight & the incline. "Now it is a little bit slower than the claimed 2.3 seconds zero to sixty, but we had three people in the car and were on kind of a slight incline." Sorry if you don't like the way I worded it.

Resale value is a huge plus for tesla. I have not experienced range anxiety one time so-far and Ive driven my 90D X halfway across the country. Using the Tesla charging network is a different cadence of driving that is not a bad experience, and will only improve from here.

I don't doubt that it's not a "bad experience," but I wouldn't describe it as ideal either. But I agree, it will only improve.

A friend of mine just got a model X p100d... Thing was around $160k. I am not a fan.. There are just too many compromises / questionable design decisions at that price point. Materials aside, the interior features (for passengers) are comparable to cars in the $10-$20k range. Passengers get a comfy seat (if they're in the first or second row), and that's about it. Otherwise the interior feels nearly bare, with nearly no amenities for passengers to use, because everything is controlled by the touchscreen in the front. The falcon doors disadvantages far outweigh any pluses they might have, and they look obnoxious IMO. Yes, it's smoking fast, and technologically it's incredible. Autopilot is possibly a game changer. But as a car, it's just not that good compared against others in the price range. Early adopters will likely love it and justify their purchases, but the early adopter tax is way too high at this point. Maybe in 5 years they'll get their interiors and quality control up to snuff.

I really agree, Scott. I think there is a lot of potential in these cars, but the fine details need improved.

JP & Co. I have to follow up on my earlier comment - I did take the Model X for an extended drive today. My comments/criticisms still stand about passenger creature comforts / ambience - or lack thereof. And the rear doors are ridiculous. But as the driver - man this thing, at least initially, is intoxicating. The accessibility of acceleration - you can essentially accelerate as soon as you want, as much as you want (up to levels of actual physical discomfort). That, to me, is near ultimate control over the vehicle - like being hardwired into your brain. No delays. I think outside of the front two seats, the car is lacking though. And even upon delivery, my buddy has already had several different issues with electronics in the car, which is alarming to say the least. It's already headed to the shop.

I like Teslas but as an engineer I could never buy one. Musk treats his employees pretty terribly and I've heard horror stories from some fellow engineers who've worked and/or interned there. Tesla has become a bit of a running joke as an "engineer mill", people will work there just a year or two to have it on their resume and then promptly quit once they find another job. I know one guy, great programmer, he actually took a lesser paying job at a different company just to get away from Tesla. I'm of the mind that making a brilliant product doesn't give you license to treat your employees like crap.
