Thank you for making this video - it gave me the confidence to tackle the job! For others wanting to do the job without special tools: I ended up doing the entire job without removing the cat, ac lines, or upper coolant pipe. The aluminum pipe connected to the water pump does have to be removed and tied out of the way with zip ties to access the two left upper bolts (otherwise you risk stripping them). Lift the car up high on jack stands, you're going to be hanging out in the wheel well for a while. With a lot of patience, and the driver's side (Left hand drive) wheel removed - going mostly by feel - one bolt at a time with 3 different length T30 bits, (short low-profile bit for behind the cat, longest one for 2 the left upper bolts, and a medium length to get the rest) - the oil cooler was successful removed and replaced. It took me several hours but saved me from spending $1k+ at the shop. This is probably not the "by the book" way - but I didn't have the tools required to drain the a/c lines - which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. VERY tight clearances, lots of patience required for this job. FYI - a little super glue on the T30 is very helpful to ensure the new bolts for the oil cooler don't fall into the abyss upon reassembly. AND be 100% sure the bit is all the way into the bolts before attempting to break them loose.

Hey man, what made you replace the gasket? I have milky fluid on the reseivor closer to the windshield. I checked my engine oil and looks fine its just on the reseivor thank, do you think it's the oil cooler?

That is what led me to replace the gasket. Important to first do a compression test, bonus points for doing a leak down test. This will confirm it's not the head gasket or a cracked head. You don't want to spend the time replacing the gasket only to find out you need a new engine. Any history of overheating? How many miles on your Giulia? Thank you for answering. I really appreciate it! And I just took the car to my mechanic. Hopefully, I won't be over 1500 dlls, i barely bought the car last week. Bought it from a used small dealership, so no warranty. The car runs great and if I hadn't replace the two bleeder screws that tent to brake I wouldn't have it noticed it.

My car is a 2018 giulia with 53,000 miles. Like I said, everything works great. The car runs great tbh but im glad I noticed before anything major happened. Man I really like this car, I hope it doesn't give me more problems down the road

After months I finally find your video that exactly show what I needed. My 280cv Giulia had a oil and coolant mixing problem. Just few oil drop but my coolant got coloured. I searched all the known internet to find a solution and you made a video on it. Nice work! I really hope that replacing this oil cooler piece the problem will be solved. I have never had power losses or never find water in the oil so I am pretty sure the problem is that device.

and, was it? my is in garage now, but i ve replaced turbo for hyb turbo and when i took the car i have noticed mixing oil and water... they were struggling with catalyst, so i hope they have touched it and fcked it up....

I always tell customers as long as you perform the necessary maintenance when it’s due and you take care of your lube services every 5k miles instead of the recommended 9600 miles, you should be fine. Another good thing to have is the Mopar extended warranty. That will save your butt with alot of repairs that these cars end up needed down the line.

Thanks for the support. The customer did have extended warranty so all of this was covered. This is why I always push for the extended warranty because you never know when your going to need a major repair done.

My '18 Stelvio has finally given me the P06DE code at 29k miles, from what I've read, this usually means a imminent oil pump replacement. It would be great if my car can be repaired by you.

Yes they 100% are. I always recommend a fuel induction service to be done every 15-20k miles to try and help with that.

Hello Alpha_Tech, thanks for your videos, I consider them very helpful and interesting. I wonder about your experience with intake valve carbon build up on 2.0 GME engines and if it is recomanded to change PCV valve regulary as a prevention procoution.

I strongly recommend to perform a regular decarb service every 15-20k miles. On the qv this carbon build up was a big issue which is why they went with port and direct injection to minimize the amount of carbon build up the best they could. I don’t think they will do that for the 2.0 but who knows, it may be something to watch out for.

I have the 2017 guilia, the bleeder cap on pipe somehow come off and shut the show down with smoke and steam everywhere. Have replaced the section that had the bleeder section with brass pipe without the bleeder. The coolant seems to have this gluey oily stuff through it and I’m told I should check the oil cooler as the engine oil is clean yet the coolant line is oily. Any recommendations on mechanics for this job near Brisbane?

There isn’t a service interval for it and it’s supposed to last the life of the car but if it were me, I’d do it at 125k with new tensioners.

I’ll have to include the link in the video, but I did show how to do it in the timing chain reseal video. I use a vacuum bleeder that attaches to shop air. Works like a charm every time and takes less than 5 minutes.

As far as part numbers I don’t believe they did. I’ve had some of these come in leaking due to a failed gasket like this one, and others leaking due to a few loose bolts on the oil cooler all together. Sometimes with these crazy, out of the ordinary repairs I have to do, I wonder if these cars were build on a Friday, late in the afternoon 🤣.

just got back from my oil change... my mechanic said that I'm leaking out of the oil cooler!! FML I have a '18 Ti.... 58k miles... he didn't give me a price, just said buy the oil cooler, and he'll install.... yikes how much is it gonna cost? can't believe its leaking I don't even drive it that hard

It’s definitely not a easy job just because of the bolts for the exhaust and location of the cooler but everything for the most part is pretty straightforward.

Wow, like working in a German car. You're obviously a great mechanic. But you're wrong about one thing, those stock hose clamps far superior to worm gear screw clamps. If you did that to my car, I'd be very upset.
