@@JacK-yr8ri You won't be disappointed . I also had an A3, a reliable car but hated the drive through the twisty roads. You will love the 240i and its rwd ( I assume it's a rwd) ..it's very quick and torque punch is very impressive .Don't think many cars in this price bracket will keep up with this car from a rolling start.

Yes rwd, went for the 8 speed zf auto. Cant wait, I agree the A3 is great for long journeys but has no excitement whatsoever.

I have a 2017 M240i convertible in a stick and cannot understand how ANYBODY would buy it in the auto stick....they are missing out on a TON of fun. By the way just discovered recently how you can disable the match revving if you wanted to do it (for track??). Press and hold the traction control button (DSC) for longer than 5 seconds. A few things will happen, DSC now disabled, car goes into SPORT mode as well as cancelling the rev matching. Nowhere to be found in the manual by the way. So far never had an issue with the car. Great review.

You are 100 percent correct. I have a M240i coupe. The manual is the only way to go. Like yourself I prefer real driving. I also turn off all the electronic assists. An autobox with video game paddles is an insult to this ultimate driving machine. Following the car around and playing with paddles IS NOT DRIVING. Do not settle for less. If your BMW dealer does not have a manual on the lot get them to bring one in. It will be worth the wait. Guaranteed.

Awesome review, as always, Max! The BMW M2 sure seemed like a blast to drive. I really like that orange exterior color. Also, I absolutely agree with your statement about the rims complimenting the car's color. All in all, the interior definitely seems a little on the simplistic side, but I think people truly buy this vehicle for its performance factor. Not really its technological advancements. Nevertheless, from one car reviewer to another, keep up the great work!

I agree that the car is bought for performance rather than tech, but it is unfortunate how a lot of premium vehicles don't come with the expected equipment of an equivalent 'economy'
@DriveAndBeDriven
6 жыл бұрын
TheDriveGuyde, I couldn't agree with you more about that! It really is a shame that a lot of premium vehicles don't offer certain technology that most economy automobiles feature. Furthermore, most premium car manufacturers charge absurd amounts of money for systems/technology that certain entry-level economy cars come with as even standard equipment. It's quite confusing, but I guess they're benefiting... Once again, great review!

I own a 2017 M240i, and I fully agree with your sentiments on the car - every day I cannot wait to drive it! The only thing I disagree with is its competing cars that you mention at the end of the segment (CLA and A3). Being that it is a coupe, I very much would put it on par with a (base) Porsche Boxter/Cayman. Although far less expensive, it offers similar quality, performance and driver involvement. Just as there have been many video car comparisons between the Cayman GTS/S and the M2. Just my two cents. Great review!

Great job review. I test drove 2019 240i and agree with your review. $61,000 MSRP will be nicely equipped. Sunset Orange was BMW press release version. Initially, I didn’t like it but it’s grown on me now after realizing it’s more red than orange, For 2022 redesign, it’s Thunder metallic is very purple for its press release.

Awesome review. You drove by my house on Rundle Drive! I'm actually debating between a new M240i and a slightly used M2. My brain knows that the M240i with XDrive is the sensible thing to do but my heart is all over a 2018 M2 w/ manual transmission! I can see myself zipping along the Moraine Lake road or the Yoho Valley road to Takkakaw falls... at the speed limit of course. :)

I am looking at the 2021 M240. Hopefully, they will improve some of the flaws you mentioned. I hate auto-revving. I rather do it myself. Oh, they can keep their Apple Play. What a rip-off to pay extra for that feature. Even my 2017 Chevy truck came with Apple Play and Android as standard. I owned a 2016 M235. My mistake with the M235 is that I ordered it with auto. I always drive manual in all my BMWs. Big mistake for me! I think the best value and best performance is leave it the way it is stock. Don't mess with it.

auto rev-matching is easily turned off actually: by disabling all ESC... 😑 I always drive with ESC off for that reason, not especially safe but I like the natural feeling of the car without nannies

Not exactly, my car was a demonstrator and they configured it with the M Performance exhaust from factory so it came as a freebie. The car comes with a lot of m styling anyway but the exhaust was a bonus.

@ChipZilla69

@@barryoppenheim1994 You will be happy with the stick as it's the drivers choice. The auto is buttery smooth, slightly faster and has better fuel economy due to the 8th gear. There's no bad choice though, just depends what you value most in your driving experience. You will love it.

You have it wrong. Buying the autobox is throwing your money away. You have never actually DRIVEN a car if you have only ever used an automatic transmission. Following the car around and steering it and (over) using the brakes is NOT DRIVING. It is commuting. The art of heel and toe shifting and using engine braking for proper cornering is driving. Selecting your own gears and feathering the gas to rev match while downshifting into a tight turn IS DRIVING. Your head on a swivel with no nanny warning lights and your ear attuned to the sweet music of the silky inline 6 cylinder and picking your own shift points IS DRIVING. If you can dance even a little you can learn to drive a manual. Then hopefully, you may begin your practical education on actual driving. Once you do you will never make a comment like that again.

All the money is spent on the engine and drivetrain.. If they want quality, go for a Lexus or Audi etc...
