I’m very late to reply but there’s a major difference between college and professional football and that’s the fact that one’s a full career and the other is not. NFL players get payed and college doesn’t. It’s also slightly more important to protect the college players more as most of them don’t play professionally and do other careers instead. Playing professional is more of a career and as such it has more risks to playing.

I see a lot of "football" players who have bad technique. Either the coaches are not teaching them how to tackle properly or these players are not as tough as they think they are. I see players standing over someone else after a tackle-that tells me that player is immature and has a lot to learn. I see so many players with the improper tackling technique who pat themselves on the back after they perform an illegal hit. VERY WEAK!

I honestly hate the targeting=ejection ruling. A lot of these ejections are coming from incidental head contact on big hits. Also, if the ball carrier drops his head last second and it gets hit, that's on the ball carrier. Yet we see defenders ejected for it. If the hit looks avoidable or was done purposefully, the yes eject them. However, if it was incidental it shouldn't be an ejection

mmmmm Some of this plays are NOT targeting, the first one as example, If the QB is not going to throw the ball in a pass and start running and crosses the scrimmage line he becames a runner and there´s not targeting on a runner (he knows that is going to be hit and hit hard) and is prepared for that. it could be illegal use of helmet yes maybe, but targeting? my opinion.
@stonefly69
3 жыл бұрын
The players are targeting, using the crown of the helmet to hit opponents helmets, true. But put the blame on coaches: they are teaching this in practice. Players don't invent this on their own, they learn from their coaches. It is time to bring the hammer down on coaches for teaching players to use their helmets as offensive weapons. CTE is real and it is killing former players.
@joemauntel9381
2 жыл бұрын
As someone who played football from 4th grade to the NFL, I can tell you, with NO DOUBT, that coaches absolutely do NOT teach players how to spear. I last played in 1987, before all the safety measures were implemented. Back then, ANYTHING was fair game. Only thing you couldn't do was pull a face mask. I hit many, many ballcarriers with my helmet....and shoulder. In the heat of the battle back then, HOW you hit them was the absolute LAST thing on your mind. So, no....they do NOT teach players nowadays to lead with the helmet. FYI.

I'm ok with the targeting rule TO A POINT.. alot of these in this video do look like targeting BUT i will say this IF they are going to have this rule they need to be CONSISTENT on calling it.. and it seems like now the refs just want to call a targeting on someone every game, I have seen several instances of targeting being called this yr in the SEC already where I really don't think it was, and there's atleast 1 every game it seems like that was not justified.. I mean yeah it happens from time to time but I really don't think officials should be calling targeting penalties as much as they do, atleast in the games I have been watching.. now its getting to the point where if you barely hit the QB during a play they call a targeting even tho it wasn't technically a late hit.. I mean yeah i get the purpose of the rule and there are instances where its needed but I really don't think it should be called as much as it is, and these examples aren't the best for arguing my case but I'm just saying.. I get the purpose of the rule but it seems like officials are calling targeting more and more like they're trying to meet a quota or something, I disagree with the way it is enforced.. my question is why is this rule being forced SO hard?? I'm all for safety and stopping deliberate cheap shots but its kinda getting out of hand! tired of the inconsistent calls

I know this comment was originally from a year ago, but after reading it, I'm reminded of a number of times from NFL's last season where Refs were calling for "Unnecessary Roughness", when, in reality, the player being penalized didn't even hit the guy they tackled as badly as they want to believe. Especially the QB. Nowadays, it seems like you can't tackle anybody anymore, as if you should just let them RUN for that "Hard-Earned" TD. C'mon Man!

You pretty much said exactly how I feel about the targeting rule, I get why the rule is there, and I'm all for protecting players. But it's being called so inconsistently. There's definitely been some calls that are really questionable if it was even targeting and they call it. And on the flip side I've seen hits that were TEXTBOOK targeting and nothing got called.

If face masks were removed would this still be as big of an issue? No one would lead with their face

It'd still be an issue, because they're not leading with their face. They're making contact on the crown (top) of the helmet, which is dramatically more likely to cause career-ending injuries. If they remove the facemask, it just means you're going to eat a cleat, or worse, another helmet. Removing the facemask does nothing to solve the problem.

3:23 is NOT targeting at all the player was a blocker and blockers are not defenseless players are you shitting me? He got laid out it’s the defending teams job to get rid of blockers. This is what many football fans are fearing is that the game will become too soft it’s not a soft game

In the 2nd video, he should have been flagged for taunting as well.
