Love my Clarity! I'm currently at 325 miles with one-half a tank left from my first fill up. That's around 88 mpg!

R. Bruce Melton, Jr. I just purchased a new 2018 Honda Clarity Touring edition this past June 16, 2018. This car replaces a 2010 Honda Insight, which was purchase new and passed on to my daughter's family with approximately 78K-miles on the odometer. The Insight averaged 48.6 MPG for its period with me, and exceeded US E.P.A. ratings for fuel economy. I have 8-1/2 years experience with driving a "mild-hybrid" automobile. I purchased the Clarity because of the reliability of my Insight; one TPMS wheel sensor @ ~33k-miles was the only repair required for the Insight, excluding normal required maintenance and tires. On the Clarity, I have conducted two (2) full discharges of the Li+++-ion battery pack just to see how well it worked in the area where I reside, which is relatively rural in nature with closest town approximately 10 miles from my home in N.E. Georgia. Based upon initial results, I should be able to complete 2 roundtrips (40-48 miles) without recharging the battery or switching to hybrid operation. I am now conducting a detailed fuel economy using the car as a "hybrid" operation only - no electric-only driving - to determine the range that I can expect operating the vehicle in a very fuel efficient manner. As of this writing (August 16, 2018), "Trip A" indicates 282.4 miles to date and 57.1 MPG with a "range" of 196 miles, implying that the car has consumed 4.95 gallons of fuel to date - if you believe the display. My calculated predicted range at 57.1 MPG should be ~117 additional miles, which would theoretically project the total miles before refueling equal (=) 399.7 miles with 0.4 gallons fuel left in the 7.4 gallon tank. This value is over 130 miles greater than the car originally projected (370 miles total) including 47 miles electric only. At this point, I am not sure where the Honda calculated range of 196 miles came from, or the displayed fuel economy has a drastic error, or I am misinterpreting the provided information. I am well aware that computer derived fuel economy is a very complex algorithm that is not a simple calculation of distance driven divided by the measured fuel used. The actual fuel economy for the 2010 Insight was consistently (6.25 - 6.5)% less that the computer displayed average fuel economy. I will be supplying additional data on hybrid fuel economy, when completed shortly.

I bought this car. I love it. Drove a Prius C before. When I drive this car I feel sorry for the drivers that pay so much money for a luxury car that is based on old petroleum technology. Why ride a fancy horse when you can ride a spaceship. Thank you Tesla for forcing the car manufacturer to make changes. Honda beat Tesla to make a realistic affordable future generation car for the masses. Can’t wait till they start closing some of the gas stations.

For the price of the Clarity it should have blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats, the new infotainment system from the new Accord and traffic sign recognition.

Dan Jones agree. Accord, etc have the full Honda sensing suite. For an advanced tech car it lags the rest of the fleet.

Good review. More technical than most which suits me. We really like our Clarity. It's the best balance of electric and gas.

I love my 2018! I've had it 18 months and over 22 000 miles! 75%+ on EV! Only when I take it out of town do I typically use the ICE. Oil changes are hilariously unnecessary (but I still do them of course)! Great video! And best of luck with the channel!

I enjoyed your presentation. I live in sunny Southern California where it has been raining off and on for 3 weeks. I leased the Honda Clarity Plugin Hybrid in December 2018. It is my first plugin but my third hybrid. I also have a 2017 Accord Hybrid Touring. Love both cars but the 2018 Clarity is my favorite to drive. I chose the Clarity Plugin Hybrid because, as you say, you won't get stuck in the middle of "nowhere" when you electric motor is empty and no where to charge it up.That little gas engine will get you there. One question I have is how many times can you use the HV recharge mode (up to 57% electric recharge) during one long distance trip?

Has serious computer error issue. Purchased car in January. The car has now been in the dealership for 14 days. On the dash screen up pops a continually rotating series of major component system failures including BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. The dealer tried resetting the computer but the error reappeared. The dealer states HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS NO FIX FOR IT YET. We were given a loaner car while our $40k Clairity PHEV sits in the dealership awaiting a fix . Contacted Honda corporate to find out what is going on & was told our case worker would call us back. That was over 4 hours ago, no call back. Please consider not buying this car until Honda has a cure for this problem. Honda should pull the car off the market until the problem is solved. How can any manufacturer sell a vehicle they know has a serious safety issue? Because I've not been informed of anything being done by Honda, other than going on every website I can to warn people about this car I am also going to file a complaint against Honda with the NHTSA.

Jesus F. If your talking US gallon, I would say I average 55 mpg in the summer & 45 mpg in our brutal winters up here. Very recently I've had 60 mpg (US) as I'm getting better with the paddles on the steering wheel. I'm sure if I had the LX model (which isn't available here in Canada) I'd probably get an extra 5 mpg. These numbers are from 80% city & 20% highway driving. The more highway driving, the lower the mpg numbers will go. I haven't done 100% city driving yet on a full tank but if I did that would probably equate to another 10 extra mpg.

Hi: can you do a video on Accessory mode? I want to be able to sit at a level 2 and sit in my car, listen to the radio, charge my car, have the heater on full blast. How do I get in and out of accessory mode? I want to charge the car while having the dash board powered. And after charge, how do I get out of accessory mode? Can you go to a level 2 and show us the accessory mode while charging and then getting out of accessory mode? I have trouble on both counts: I can't get in easily; then, I can't get out of it w/o turning the whole car off and back on. It isn't as simple as braking while pressing. That doesn't work smoothly or consistently. thx.
