Shop the new Toyota Sienna: cargur.us/nHJ4X
The Sienna minivan arrived 20 years ago and has been redesigned twice since, first for the 2004 model year and again for the 2011 model year. That second redesign added all-wheel drive to the Sienna options list, a strong selling point, and the third-generation Sienna earned a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS for its debut year. As a Toyota, the Sienna has a reputation for reliability, value retention, and strong tech, but its safety ratings now fall below those of some newer competitors.
All Siennas use a powertrain that arrived for 2017, featuring a 3.5-liter V6 with 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque and an 8-speed automatic. The EPA says that powertrain should deliver 22 mpg combined, but our reviewer got just under 19 during his week with the van. For 2018 the Toyota Safety Sense package, including driver-assistance and collision-avoidance features, becomes standard equipment across the lineup, and the van gets a new front grille and headlights.
