I call that new boat weather. I bought my boat in winter and was breaking ice my first time out. I couldn't wait any longer😁

My boat is plenty fast for recreational fishing for sure. At some point I’d like to get into some competitive fishing, which would require a different rig all together, but for right now I’m very satisfied with my purchase.

On motorcycles they usually say 1000 miles for the break in, which is a lot more than an hour. One bike I babied it up until 600 miles, then gave it some more revs until 1000 miles. Then I realized it makes no difference, and did the "Hard break-in" on my next bike, which some people say is even better to seat the piston rings properly. I think if you just don't redline the motor for awhile, everything will be fine, because nobody really knows what the difference is in break-in procedures. Nobody's done both, then tore down the engine to compare wear. My guess is they'll look the same.

That’s pure speculation on your part. It’s simply easier to follow the manufacturers recommendations. That way IF there is a warranty issue there will be no issues. You do what works for you. I’m glad I did it the way I did and I’m having zero issues.

Sweet boat ... what is the trolling motor on the front? 55Lbs powerdrive suitable for this boat? Alumacraft are a bit heavier due to all the interior fittings. I wonder if I can get away with a 60hp ... max hp is 75 for this boat I think.
@fishingthe262

ettrick doo I think a 60hp would be ok, I wouldn’t go less than that though. As for the trolling motor, I went Terrova and 80lbs because I wanted a 24 volt system that wouldn’t have to work quite as hard when I’m running the Mississippi River. Buy the most horsepower you can reasonably afford, I’d hate to see someone regretting buying an underpowered boat. I went up in motor and trolling motor and then waited to buy electronics until I found a good deal.

@@fishingthe262 I think you will be happy with that boat. I have a "2005 Navigator Classic" which is the exact same hull design except the storage is slightly different. It has been a solid boat and has never gave me any issues besides come motor carb issues. I put a Helix 10 and a 80 lb Ulterra on it last year. That is a really great combo too if you have some extra dollars. You already have the Terrova so maybe you are there with a Helix already. For my purposes it does everything I need it to do. Nice video.

I went with two Garmin Echomap 94SV’s. I got a heck of a deal on them, and I have familiarity with them as I had a 73SV on my old boat.

Yeah, the beauty of Helix and Minnkota paired up is the ability to link them. Being able to troll a line on autopilot and see where the track is on the screen is a nice to have. Also being able to backtrack a route is good, but I truthfully I have only used a fraction of the capability. I'm sure both are great choices. Have a great season.

I looked at the helix too. I don’t do much trolling. Spot locking vertical is more my concern....I can’t wait to drop shot some smallies!

Trim up, brother. You are experiencing excessive drag. Trimming up, when confronted with a headwind, will allow you to ride over the waves, not through them. You're just pounding the waves, which is causing a lot of spray, and it's not as smooth a ride, pragmatically speaking.

Nice boat. Are you still happy with the size? Would you recommend getting the 175 or 185?
@fishingthe262
5 жыл бұрын
Geospace Angler, the size is good for me, as I often fish alone. Furthermore, I have about 4” of room to spare in my garage after I swing the tongue, and storing a boat outdoors isn’t something I really want to do in Wisconsin. As for the 175 and 185, I would say this: buy the largest boat you can comfortably afford without it being under powered. There’s nothing worse than an underpowered boat, in my opinion.

There’s an escape 165 near me for $15k. But it’s horribly underpowered with a Yamaha 25hp. Gonna give them a call tomorrow morning and see if for another $6-7k they’ll throw a 50 on it.

I’m not familiar with the escape, but do NOT buy an underpowered boat. The first boat I could afford was underpowered and I soon regretted owning it. I bought this boat because A: it fit in my garage, and B: I could afford to power it appropriately.
