I grew up in a small town in Osage county, Oklahoma. I had many friends who were Osage, including my first boyfriend. My grandparent’s property was separated from the “Indian Village” as it was called, by a ditch. When I was young during the summer the Osage would have pow wows on the weekend. We would come back & sleep in my grandparent’s summer house, a big screened in room over the cellar. They would dance late into the night & I would fall asleep listening to the drums. My favorite childhood memory. I later learned that I was part Cherokee.

Last year went to the Shinncock Pow Wow in Long Island, New York and it was Great - bought a real nice bed covering and got essential oils. You hear constant traditional music. Totally different atmosphere - the Atlantic Ocean borders the Reservation in Long Island where it has flat terrain, and the mountain border is part of your Reservation. Also, some of the Long Island Native Americans have an exotic look, more of a copper color, because there was/is a mixture of African American and Native American cultures. Back in the old days, Long Island was a hub for slavery and they mingled with the Native Americans, so some have a beautiful "copper' color features.
