What do you love about it? I love that the drill builds with the music. I love the execution of the seamless costume and prop color change.

Wow never saw this but I'm glad this came up in my feed. That was a really well written and designed show. It's TOUGH to break into the top 12 now.

And it should be. Unfortunately, getting into the top-12 anymore has more to do with what your name is rather than how good your show is.

@DECLAN DOUGAN they also didn’t drop out of the top-12 because they suddenly suck. It’s all to do with politics and name recognition

@DECLAN DOUGAN you’re right. The criteria states that certain corps must get preferential scoring, and the results do match up. I have a daughter that will be marching this summer (assuming there’s a season) with a corps that isn’t one of the Golden Child corps. I hate that she won’t ever get a chance to compete for a title simply because of who she matches with, regardless of how well they do

@@balkopublicschoolsmusiccha5404 I think its more that more established corps are able to put on more complex and well performed shows while keeping corps tuition low(ish). Hence why Phantom, Cadets and Madison have started to fall out of favor in place of corps like Mandarins, Blue Stars or even BAC who hadnt been making finals consistently until about 10 years ago.

@DECLAN DOUGAN my guess is that you haven’t actually watched in the last 15 years or so then. It absolutely does NOT matter how well (or not) a corps executes. If they’re not Blue Devils (or recently Crown), they’re not going to win. You come into the season knowing you’re not going to be Top 5. You could have a PERFECT show and and not place.

Seeing this live in Centerville was a treat. Edit: I went to Soaring Sounds with my band to watch and I always love watching the freshmen see a show as incredible as this. Their faces are like "Can we do that? :o" Priceless. I'm graduating now and my band season was cut short due to Covid but all well. I loved the memories.

What’s the point in insulting this show? They sounded well and performed it to the best of their ability, and I think most people would agree that having a tarp fly over your entire corps to cover a prop and uniform change adds a bit of depth. The show name thing, I have no idea, but that sounds like something they’d do tbh

@@willrobinson1482 We must hold design teams accountable. The kids are talented, but the design staff deserves to be whipped with wet noodles. What's clearly lacking in this show is design depth-- how about some literary reference, some artistic reference outside the production? Perhaps some biographical reference to Alighiere, perhaps a modern reference to climate change, or the engravings of Gustav Dore? Something, please god, anything to give this thing some resonance, some relevance. Some explanation for "why" you're doing this show. The truth is, the judges found out about the real reason why the design team did the show-- it was a reaction to a judge's comment that "you'll make the top twelve when hell freezes over", and that's simply not a legitimate artistic statement. Same with Lindsey Vento's "Bridges to Nowhere" with the Academy. You can't say "We're bridging to the new artistic director, me." That's simply not a legitimate justification for the theme selection. Both corps were punished for their amateurish design shortcomings. They'll learn.
