I love the simplicity in days when everything is getting complicated and too expensive. Great ideas thank you

since I had more questions: they are two hollow doors. only one door as you can see on the video is screwed on the basket bars (cross bars) (they are not screwed on the basket, so i have space for some tarps and the tent. The support is just 4 wooden blocks for one of the doors. I used a PGT 2-3/8 in. O.D. Pipe Grip Tie screwed at the bottom of the wood block all the way through the door but it depends on what you have holding your basket, (crossbar -circular or square) . So, one door is firmly attached to the crossbar. I have 5 hinges connecting to the other door. when i flip it open, i have two more wood blocks at the other end of the cross bar where the other door sits on the blocks since my weight will keep the blocks leveled. i put a rubber mat (like yoga mat) covering both doors just to hide the screws and not puncture the tent or air mattress inside. Just watch for your weight. Usually the cross bars have a weight limit. It will keep you dry when camping and if you choose a popup tent like the coleman, you can set up the whole thing in 2 mins. Make sure when you close the door, use a strap to secure the door on the basket or cross bars, you don't want your car to take off flying :-)

Hello from Greece! Yes! it is a clever diy idea! Can you tell me about the total weight of all the materials on the roof of the car. Is this a heavy construction? What about the roof rack? Is it gonna afford two people at about 130 kg?
@wmorales

All cars have different weight limits. I use two hollow doors, so they are light. The rack also depends on your car, but it is works well, just a matter of trying out

Thank you for the inspiration, so cool 👍🏽. Did you use a 2 person or 4 person tent? Amazon is misleading when purchasing the description says 4 person yet they send you the 2 person tent unless you specifically change the size of tent when you add it to the shopping cart.

Why not just set it up on the ground? This seems like more work than a ground tent and all the inconvenience of a rooftop tent all in one… and you’re still camping in the lowest quality tent imaginable….

Similar comment was made before. If you live in the NW and all the rain that we have, you would be glad that the bottom of your tent would be dry. It is a quick setup As well. You don't need an area to setup. If you go to a concert you will have nice view and protected from elements.no need for a bunch of stakes on the ground. Easy to disassemble for storage., cost, etc etc
