On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, all students, faculty, and staff of Greensboro Montessori School come together to "break bread" and give thanks. Inspired by the folk tale commonly known as "Stone Soup," this "Grateful Gathering" features homemade vegetable soup including produce from our permaculture gardens, along with scratch biscuits and fresh fruit.
Every student on campus contributes to the Grateful Gathering. Toddlers scrub carrots. Primary students harvest and scrub sweet potatoes. Lower Elementary students grate carrots and ginger. Upper Elementary students bake biscuits. And Junior High students coordinate the entire day, from transforming the Gym into a 300-person restaurant to cooking and serving the meal.
