I’ve had my 2018 EX trim for a year. It’s amazing. I don’t like the sluggish head unit so much (but CarPlay exists so....) and the audio was lacking, but I ended up upgrading it myself and I’ve been happy every since. In an ideal world where oil dilution wasn’t a problem with the turbo, it’s really efficient and drives nicely. You get the fuel economy of a smaller car in a bigger car. Honda sense used to trip up all the time but after getting the bumper repaired from an accident I had (the sensors were damaged), it works perfectly.

If Honda fixes the oil dilution problem in 2019, it's a tough call. The CR-V has some big advantages over the CX-5 for my purposes. The CX-5 is gorgeous of course inside and out and I am sure the better driver. But the CR-V has more cargo room and, as the reviewer showed in the video, how important that the rear seats fold down without the headrests hitting even with the front seats moved all the way back. I have to carry boxes daily for work and if I have to scoot the front seats forward each time or remove the rear headrests, that would suck. In the Mazda, the headrests hit and prevent the rear seats from folding. Check it out in Prime Autotainment's review of the CX-5 Signature. The cargo capacity difference is huge. 75 vs 59 cu ft with the seats folded. You have to get something like a Highlander or Pilot to beat the cargo space in the CR-V. Then there is the performance. I believe the CR-V with the 1.5 Turbo does 0-60 in 7.3 seconds. That's not bad considering that it gets 29 or 30 miles per gallon average on regular gas. 7.3 is fairly quick. Faster than the regular non turbo CX-5 which does 0-60 in the 8's and not that far off the turbo CX-5 which I believe tests 0-60 in 6.4 seconds. The CR-V EX-L trim level is simply hard to beat at MSRP under $30,000 with the leather 12 way adjustable driver's seat, and the seat memory included. Just have to decide if the Turbo CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve better driving experience and 0.9 sec. improvement in 0-60 acceleration is worth the extra $5,000 MSRP and the lower gas mileage. Doesn't it come down to that?

I understand your concerns. I drove 70K a year and changed my vehicle every three years. If it is also for personal use and you find yourself in the vehicle for long period of time comfort is a plus. I certainly cannot fault your logic for carrying space. CRV certainly has that. My wife and I are now retired and the service of the vehicle is not for work or commute. We test drove the 19 Subaru Forester, CRV and CX5 Signature. We turned in our 3 year old Subaru because it was so uncomfortable and found the CRV only slightly better in comfort but the drive train and vibration bothered me. We ended up with the Signature. Utility, definitely the CRV, comfort and handling (our travel car) for us it was definitely the Signature. Good luck with your choice.

Do NOT bet on Honda REALLY fixing the oil dilution problem, regardless of what their employees might post on here. They're on their second iteration of a "fix" at the moment, which includes potentially replacing spark plugs and cam (google A18-147.pdf). If you google the CRV Owners Club forum, you'll find a number of 2019 model year owners that still complain of the SAME OLD PROBLEM. Do NOT trust Honda (like I did, just to get burned).

I'm in the market for a new vehicle. My last two options are CRV and Rav4. Drove the Rav4 last Saturday. Although it is a good car, it felt almost claustrophobic with the dash and other commands too close to me. Lots of leg room. Engine felt sluggish when accelerating from almost a stop. The new 8 speed transmission takes too long to recognize the command. My next option would be CRV. I'm currently driving my 2nd CRV and it is possible that I will go for the 3rd one. As for the issue of the oil and gasoline, it appears that the Honda as solved the issue as per my mechanic information. It seems the issue begins when driving very short distances for example from the grocery store to the gas pump then turning the engine off as it is the law. I will drive test the CRV today.

@PrimeAutotainment
5 жыл бұрын
Very close in so many ways. I prefer the CRV. I find the rogue very comfortable to drive but otherwise I’d take the CRV in almost any other aspect. The biggest deterrent about the Rogue for me is it’s transmission which I’ve heard way too many bad things about. The thing about the CRV is it’s had a history of fuel diluting the engine oil in cold weather climates with repetitive short driving distances. Honda says they’ve “fixed” it but supposedly people are still having problems. I’d do a little research on that “Honda 1.5 turbo oil dilution” first. If you’re not in a cold climate, I wouldn’t worry though! Good luck 👍

@robertjones7565

I just found your review and have a good question for you or any other folks that could comment on it. The oil dilution problem and potential "fix" seems to be isolated to the CRV and not the Civic or Accord, both of which have the same 1.5 liter engine. Why is the CRV plagued with this problem and not the two other models.
@PrimeAutotainment
4 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question and I don’t know exactly. The tuning of the engine is different in each with different power numbers and that might be the only reason. However, someone commented on a Civic video saying they had that dilution problem in the Civic so I’m not sure what to think... 😕
@ES-pr8bt
4 жыл бұрын
And they still suffer from oil dilution problems, They said they fixed it with a software update but it didn’t work. They tried to blame it on cold weather areas but it does it in the summertime as well. Love the vehicle but would never buy another one because of this issue. Not a vehicle to keep long term because engine wear and failure will be inevitable if they keep refusing to acknowledge the problem.

LX has simpler screen and functions, no Carplay/android. Still cloth seats but manual. 1” smaller wheels. No Honda Sensing features. Interior space and storage is the same I believe, but I don’t think it gets rear A/C vents or usb plugs in the back. I’d have to check that though

@@PrimeAutotainment thank you. How is the audio sound system in the LX? Do you think it would get overshadowed by road/wind noise?
@PrimeAutotainment
5 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. I’m not sure how that one sounds, it’s a 4 speaker setup compared to a 6 speaker like this. I used to have a Civic with a 4 speaker system and it was underwhelming, but gets loud enough. All CR-Vs have active noise cancellation that helps block out road/wind noise, and in my opinion it seemed like a relatively quiet cabin for the class. I don’t think you’ll have any issues hearing the stereo. If so, you could have a couple aftermarket speakers added for not too much or even completely upgrade the radio head unit/add speakers later

Woops. Looks like the 2019 crv still has the same issue with the rear seat belts for left passenger and center passenger being reversed. Which means to safely transport 5 people, the 2 seatbelts in the back must crossover each other. There is also a class action lawsuit for this. Stay away.

@@PrimeAutotainment the sad part is, Honda refuses to fix it. Claims it is normal and by design. Hence the lawsuit. It would be an easy fix to just swap the lower center anchor around. topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/852096-honda-cr-v-class-action-challenges-seat-belt-safety/

Honda used to be at the forefront of new technology, and in a way they are still innovators. But the way they package this tech leaves a lot to be desired. The design room must be manned by middle aged people who are stuck in the eighties. It seems there is a big difference in what is perceived as modern design in Japan compared to the rest of the world. The only people I see driving them are older people. Even the new Honda Civic has gone to the dogs. With those big air vents front and back, it’s hard to tell what end is what. The Civic TypeR was a design classic until they brought out the latest model. Killed its appeal stone dead. Honda really have to give themselves a shake and clear out their design department. They have sat back over the years wallowing in their well earned reliability record as the rest of the industry designed sharper and more modern looking cars. I owned a few Hondas and had no problems with any of them. My last car was 18 yrs old and never let me down once. I may be getting on a bit now but I’m still young in the head and can’t see me driving the CRV. I have an early S2000 which is used during the summer and I just love it. Why can’t Honda make a car like this nowadays? Please Honda - usher the pipe smoking design team out the door and into retirement, using their flat caps to play frizbee with the grandkids, and get some young, talented and visionary designers in. You used to be a leader - now it’s constant catch up with other manufacturers.

in market for an suv ,this car is not bad looking good trunk size but whats with all this oil dilution stuff?Apparently Honda is not even recognizing this problem which is not something to laugh about in my opinion.It can damage the engine and make the car stall on you not to mention a slow warm up time.I will definitely take this car off my list and look at Rav 4 or Rogue or Mazda Cx5 instead.Why would anyone in their right mind by a car with such a big problem ?
