Shop the new Honda Insight: cargur.us/qkrxM
Based largely on the Civic, the all-new 2019 Honda Insight employs a regular hybrid powertrain to improve fuel economy. Priced roughly, $2,000 over comparable Civics, the Insight also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plenty of cargo space, and an array of safety features as standard equipment. But, of course, the car’s mileage is its true selling point.
A 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine pairs with a hybrid motor to produce a combined 151 horsepower-with 197 lb-ft of torque available from 0 to 3,000 rpm thanks to that electric motor. Honda claims this powertrain, paired with a CVT and driving the front wheels, will help the Insight deliver 52 mpg in combined driving, in LX and EX trims. Due to its larger wheels and heavier equipment (such as premium stereo), the Touring trim is supposed to return 48 mpg combined.
But Chris Wardlaw didn’t see 48 mpg when he tested an Insight Touring. Instead, he saw a meager 38.9 miles per gallon. But does this make the Insight, with its good looks, engaging drive, and impressive set of standard features a bad deal? To find out, read Chris’ full review on CarGurus: cargur.us/qkrr2
