Right? The sleeves aren’t durable, but they’re adorable! One of the game stores I frequent here in Osaka was having a blowout sale recently on GameCube games. (¥200-¥400 a piece, boxed!). I never intended to start a GC collection, but they’re SO cute! And at those prices... well... I have about 20 or so now... 🤣😅 And thanks for the tip on IKEA for game shelves! To be honest I would not use Ikea stuff for gaming at all. I know it is hard to barf up some money "only" for the setup, but over 12 Years I had one Ikea shelf after the other breaking down on my gaming setups, especially if you put an old heavy CRT TV on top of the Retro shelf :( It took me several hrs of planning it out with my wife (a home designer) and it was pricy, but my current setup is very satisfying and sturdier than anything I ever saw from Ikea! *We had custom built 2 big shelves (1,20m high and about 2m wide EACH )* Now I can have my CRT and HD TV next to each other with 24 consoles hooked up simultaneously without ever switching a single cable and I still have some slots free for consoles to come. Bottom line: *If you have the time to save some money for it I would have a custom build shalf oder anything IKEA!*

I suggest moving the CD disc base on to the second shelf instead of the bottom because to prevent more dust. Ground units will get more dust and particles. The ps4 needs to go up. Any systems with a fan needs to go up on higher lvl. Nice collection.

Very nice setup! I seriously need to work on some cable management myself, heh. Slightly sad to see your distaste for the Xbox One after how much you clearly enjoyed the original Xbox and Xbox 360, but I suppose Microsoft did it to themselves early on. I started out similarly with the Xbox One, but it has really grown on me over the years, to the point where I get everything I can for it and primarily use my PS4 for exclusives. Part of it comes down to how much I like the current Xbox One controller. Hoping to see a little more even competition between the two next generation, as I feel like Sony is falling back into the attitude they had going from PS2 to PS3 again. Much like Microsoft between the 360 and Xbox One. This cycle gets old.

Just a head's up with that EON N64 HDMI device. It's really just an svideo connection which upscales and outputs to HDMI. It's expensive ($150+) and you can get better results, including zero additional latency, from a cheap $5 svideo cable + RetroTINK-2X ($99). The best looking output you can currently get to the N64, non-emulated, is the Ultra HDMI. It can be a tricky install, with a ribbon which needs to be soldered to a surface mounted PPU, but I think you know your way around a soldering iron. But anyway, buying the RetroTINK-2X + Svideo cable over the EON, will save you at least $50. It's also a line doubler, like the OSSC, instead of an upscaler, so it won't add input lag like upscalers will do. Not to mention you can use the RetroTINK-2X for many other systems which have svideo and component outputs.

You could fill the back with some cheap white board cut to size and open holes at the back to pass the wires through. Helps a lot with cable management. As for the cubes, you could have some glass cut to size to act as shelves and put them in the middle of each cube to double the capacity for consoles! That way you kind of maintain the look of the furniture and the glass overall looks quite neat!

14:53 is the paint on your copy of MGS Twin Snakes starting to flake? I think about 8 out of every 10 discs are. I've been asking around on FB and Twitter and a ton of people posted there photos. From anything like a barely noticeable line in the paint to some where almost all of the white paint has buckled up and is falling off. Luckily there is a polycarbonate layer between the paint and the reflective aluminum layer. So the data seems to be unharmed. Anyone else reading this, also please check your Twin Snakes if you have a copy. Its a very strange paint defect. I do wonder if all of the GC games will end up like that in the future. I suppose it's no use dreading it. Though I wonder if it isn't a bad idea to spray the art on the top with a clear coat to keep it from happening.
@hozus.7330
5 жыл бұрын
I heard that particular game had poor quality discs, and a lot of those discs become unusable due to the poor quality accelerating disc rot. Is this true?
@videogameobsession
5 жыл бұрын
@@hozus.7330 Well, the problem lies with the paint. It's either a defect which happened during production of the disc, or something with the mixture of the paint used on the disc itself, but the data is still protected by a layer of polycarbonate plastic which is between the disc art and the reflective aluminum. So it may look bad, but should still work fine. I've also seen examples of this with other games too. For some reason it seems to be more prominent with either white or very light colored labels, such as Resident Evil 4, Mega Man Anniversary, but I've seen some others which are different colors too. I really do think they are all going to end up like that sooner or later. Sort of like how many older Atari 2600 labels have glue stains over time. Be thankful it isn't disc rot. That kills the data.

I had a Halo special edition Xbox, it was green though. Then my mom sold it at pawn shop for $15.

WOW! And when you see Batrider on a cab in the first minute, you know it's going to be great.

Surprised you like the PAL Dreamcast cases...as much as I love the system, the hinges on the cases broke just looking at them!

I like them for the exact same reason as he does (I think...?). They look unique, distinct from basically any other system. NA/JP cases are anything but. On a related note, unlike almost every other retro CONSOLE, PAL DC's PAL library is arguably superior to its NA counterpart as well. Shenmue II (the best game on the system IMO), Headhunter (in the top 10) and Rez etc. were never released in North America.

Mynthon they’re all fair points, especially on the artwork front which was consistently better than NA releases...they just failed on the most basic function of protecting the discs themselves! The disc spindles were particularly weak, leaving your disc rattling around in the case. Still, I bloody love the console regardless...

I'm using kallax too (as is everyone). Can you recommend anything for cable management? I'm also in Australia.

It's refreshing to see someone else who loves the Dreamcast so much. It gets a lot of hate despite being a great system with a great library. Awesome video, your game room looks really good!

I really need to give my setup a complete overhaul. The last video I shot of it (16 years ago!) I had 18 systems, most connected via svideo, with iR remote to a 36" CRT. /pWOTvCJ69j4

I LOVE how there's a built in ashtray on the arcade cabinet! Nothing like chain smoking a half pack while trying to beat your Mrs. Packman highscore

Very nice retro console room! Once we got a home computer in '84 (an 800XL) I couldn't go back to consoles in any serious way. I admire that you could. I did have a Dreamcast and PS2 but they were so limiting to me. Games on computers seemed better and more adult. Per your strong recommendation I'll consider a PS4 when prices drop.

Mate, awesome stuff, as one of the earliest people who was watching your videos way back 7-8 years ago (man, am I already nearly 36 now!? times flies, lol) and enjoying seeing the various setups you posted, from the pana supergun setup you had to the blast, and then the mini cute cab, really cool to see another update my friend! As you well know over the years, when folks post room tours, it's an immediate comment on for me, lol, just my favorite types of videos still to this day. Man, I still remember the old days, and when I first spoke with you when you contacted me via the old YT PM system about cabs and super guns, good memories for sure. I'm lagging my ass these past few years, hah, really need to get things finished up in both my games rooms these days. I shot a couple vids back in may and then in June later on in regards to the clean up and edited it up, but forgot to upload it with how busy things are, heh...but downstairs my room is still in flux as well. I need more motivation to finish up, lol. Great stuff with the room as always man!
