The new Santa Fe is a 2-row SUV, not a 3-row SUV like the old Santa Fe. The old 3-row Santa Fe is now the new Santa Fe XL, although it hasn’t been updated for the 2019 model year. The old Santa Fe Sport has been discontinued, with the new Santa Fe replacing it. Got that? Luckily, here’s the only part that matters: The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is a great value and a worthy competitor to both compact and midsize SUVs.
Although all trims come standard with a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that’s optional on the Limited and Ultimate trims is a real treat. 235 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque help the Santa Fe hustle up to highway speeds, and the vehicle’s relatively low clearance and center of gravity make it pleasant through corners.
Cargo space falls short of most midsize crossovers, and even a few compact ones, like the Honda CR-V. However, the truly hands-free tailgate is a welcome convenience, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard on all trims. Upgrading to a trim above the base SE adds niceties like satellite radio, Hyundai’s BlueLink infotainment system, and Alexa integration.
Additionally, Hyundai Smart Sense is standard, with forward-collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
