I've watched many videos of "What's at the National" and this is by far my favorite. While I appreciate the others taking the tie time to scan the tables and show what they saw your video was just so much better with all the commentary and tips on collecting. I also enjoyed you taking the time to stop and talk to some of the dealers and show what they had. You've got yourself a new subscriber!

So many memories came flooding back to me at once watching this video. I can't believe it took me several months to watch this, but dammit I finally did. Excellent walk-through of the SHOW Mark! I was there for several days and still didn't get to see everything, so these type of videos are always most welcomed. It was also nice getting the chance to meet you at the hangout on Friday. The conversation in the lobby you had with Joe, Phil, Mike, Dave, and several others about Trout was legendary! My favorite moment of the National this year!

Great video! I never realized it until you said it, “but this year’s prices are definitely next year’s discounts” is a very true statement. I catch myself watching videos from previous year nationals and think “wow that card was cheap at the time.
@Foo3112
5 жыл бұрын
It's true. Everyone complains about the prices. Go see last years videos and the years before that. You'll wish that those prices were still around. A box of 86/87 Fleer Basketball from 2014's National was at 29K. I know for a fact one sold for 44K at this past show in 2019. What else is making that kind of money in that kind of time by doing nothing. Nothing - that's what! Thanks for watching.

The last National Sports Collectors Convention I attended was in the mid-90s in Atlanta. You eluded to the egos of many of the dealers in your video here. It was the terrible attitudes and egos of many dealers and collectors that drove me into retirement of the hobby. In addition, the card manufacturers introduced so many sets each year at ever-steepening prices and limiting certain card numbers (such as rookies) to very small printings, it made it literally impossible to build complete sets. I got into my other hobby (numismatics) full time. The overall attitude of dealers was much greater in the coin market, than in the sports card market. Plus, overhyped rookies sell for $100 or more, then they fail and fall completely out of the sport, and a couple of years later and those same cards are selling for 50 cents or less. However, I have rekindled my desire to collect cards over the last two years. No, not sports cards. I concentrate on Star Wars cards. I invest around $10,000 each year on the highest-end product that Topps produces for Star Wars - Masterwork. This product is produced in very low quantities and is completely flying under the radar at the current moment. Actually, I envision these sets rivaling the 1952 Topps Baseball Set and the 1986/87 Fleer Basketball set. Star Wars was a world I was raised in and actually grows with each generation. If the next movie is successful, these sets will escalate in value of the next few years and decades. I have even pulled a unique autograph pen relic of one of the main leading actors. One person offered me $3,000 for it before I could get out of my friend's shop. I just cannot go back into sports cards. The non-sport cards have a better chance of withstanding the test of time, especially in the condition in which I preserve them. Happy Collecting!

back in early 90's, a person came to a card show in seattle with a unopened wax box, just short of full, of the 52 topps 1st series. he sold the box to Mr. Mint at a price of $400 per pack.

Great Video!! Thanks for posting- The hobby could really take off if only collectors could somehow reach out to other demographics beyond the “aging white guy”. Really a lack of diversity in the card collecting world from the looks of this video. For those looking to make a buck- a few more kids, women and people from other parts of the globe outside the US would be a huge step in the right direction. Millions more potential collectors are out there with money to spend. I’m sure they would enjoy collecting and investing as much as the people in this video!! Let’s find a way to introduce them to the hobby-

I have watched this video a few different times now. It's especially good because it is informative, more so than most walk through videos. I learn something new or catch something different each time I watch. One question: I know you are a fan of the 93' SP Jeter, so did you see very many quality PSA 9s?
@Foo3112
4 жыл бұрын
Collect24 Thanks. To be honest, I wasn’t looking at Jeter SP’s since I already owned one. I was on a mission to find a nice 52 Mantle and a Jordan rookie in a PSA 10. That’s all I was really looking for. If a table didn’t have any of those two cards, I would quickly move to the next table. Once I found both of those cards towards the end of my first day, on the second day (which was my last day), I just walked around with a beer in hand and just enjoyed myself. I didn’t really look at any one particular item. Speaking of Jeter SP, I’ll have a new video really soon which will talk a little more about those and what I think is going to happen to those cards as he approaches the HOF.

Are you saying bring cash because better deals can be made? I always use a credit card just in case there is a problem after I've purchased something. And no matter how you secure it, it's always a bit unsafe to carry that much cash.
@Foo3112
5 жыл бұрын
Hi. I completely agree. Always risky. I took proper precautions such as - I never told anyone what I was looking nor how much I had on me. Also, I placed a lock on my bookbag to ensure no one would be fiddling around back there and it always stayed on my shoulders. I still believe that cash is king and no one is turning down cash and it will always give you the upper hand when it comes to making big purchase items. I do know for sure was that there were dealers who wouldn't even accept PayPal gift as form of payment. But it all depends on each person and what they feel comfortable doing. Thanks for watching.
