Went out this morning to start up my Ram Dually. Been setting for 2 weeks. Fired right up just like it was 70 outside.

My uncles truck does that on cold starts but other than that he loves his Cummins.

Check out my 05' 5.9L G56 cold start video in -26F and I'd have to agree that was an odd noise. I went from a 12' 6.7L 4th gen to a 3rd gen. Nice truck. I've never owned a Ford but Cummins and Duramaxs haven't let me down yet.

First time def owner here. With all the horror stories. I just keep mine in the heated attached garage when I’m not driving it. Punted the wife’s suburban out. The look on her face !

I have had a dozen new diesels with DEF...only had one issue with DEF and that was on an ecodiesel that had 90k miles on it. $175 later and issue was fixed. Not a big deal. Thanks for watching!

My 2016 makes the same sound when cold start. But it fired up in -10 the other day. My problem is in this brutal cold my def line heater quit working and now have the "you're screwd in 150 miles" message.

2001, 2007.5, and now 2022 never had that noise or light. The grid heater on the intake is far superior to glow plugs. I also live in Michigan and have cabin in UP and all of these trucks have always fired right up so far.

I currently have a 2016 Ram with 6.7 Cummins and have also owned a 2012 and 2006. A couple times when below zero I've heard a noise similar to that but don't think quite that loud. I do agree it sounds like a pump so either power steering or high pressure fuel pump. If it does it again when your in the cab turn the steering wheel a little to see if that changes the sound. I have a question for you. I'm getting ready to build a greenhouse so am wondering where you purchased the twin wall plastic panels for your last build. I saw the video you did that showed inside temp on near freezing day so they look like they work well. Can you compare to how well the clear corregated panels you used on that easier greenhouse. On the grid intake air heaters. Think your correct on reasoning why may be better than glow plugs, less maintenance and easier head engineering. You do need to regularly check the bolt stud at the heater grid where the cable from the relay connects. Over time the stud can work loose from heat cycles and get loose dropping metal pieces into the intake. Just need to check it with your fingers to make sure it's tight and doesn't jiggle. You google for more info.

Thanks for watching!! And thank you for the comments. I am not sure I know what you are referring to regarding the twin wall plastic panels..Are you talking inside one of my enclosed trailers?

@@CTECH-REVIEW Question is about the clear panels you used on the last greenhouse build. The one where you ended up with the rock sticking up inside. I thought that they were twin wall polycarbonate panels.

I have a 4th gen and it makes the same noise, I’ve always thought it was some sort of DEF purge. Because def freezes in the lower temps.

My ‘22 did the same with coolant light. Seems when its that cold the coolant level sensor causes an issue. I haven’t heard that noise before on mine.

My 19 made that noise at -15. Once I did cp3 conversion it stopped. Possible cp4 whine.

No problem. At that cold it could be anything I guess. We’re in a cold snap again here in Pa. I actually bought a heater chord a put it on mine. It will start up in cold but I like helping it as much as possible. As for the I/c low mine does that as well. It only does it when cold. The truck is topped off with coolant so I don’t worry with it

Those 6.7’s are bad ass man that thing will last you forever. That noise you heard is your fuel pump heating up its nothing to worry about. As for the grid heater yes that is a much more reliable method than the glow plugs I wish ford would move to that. Far as the coolant light goes being so cold your sensor was probably froze that will happen a lot with these newer trucks so you’ll have to get used to it. You’ll also be replacing those sensors as well where they are a common thing to fail. Nice truck though.
