I just had the toyota dealer do my 30K service on my tacoma, and I decided to do the oil change. The first two bolts to take off the pan were tightened so tight, I stripped the head of the bolts with ratchet and 6 sided sockets. So I had to take it in to the local shop so they could charge me 70 bucks for an oil change I already had all the parts for. I seldom go you dealerships because of several bad experiences, chalk up another one. I figured the 30k service would be my last chance at getting repairs free if something was wrong, so i am back to doing things myself. I do love your video's and your attention to detail, I just wish all service worked under the same principals :)

I've performed all oil/filter changes on my '17 Taco since buying it new....it gets easier the more you do it. Between my lift and driving it up on one paver stone each tire, there's enough clearance to do it lying down on a big piece of cardboard comfortably. I'm 50+ and don't nessecarily like crawling around on the ground, but I have peace of mind it's done right and no stripped skidplate bolts, no oil spilled all over the engine block, things aren't over/under tightened, not over/under filled, etc.... I also save $20 to $30 while still using the best filter & oil. My engine in the TRD OR calls for 6.2 qt....I put in a case of 6 and it fills it perfectly near the full line. I've got it down to a half hour or so taking care not to spill a drop.

I would have put the drain plug on the filter housing back on and prefilled some new oil in it... I have heard for decades how important that is on startup. In October, 2018, Toyota switched the filter system from the cartridge to the self-contained canister on the 2ZR-FXE, 1NM (as featured on the Lexus CT200h, Priuses and 4-cylinder hybrids by Toyota/Lexus). I really thought that was a great move and played a very minor part in my purchase. Let's just say it was a "yay!" moment.

This guy is good!! At least now I know how to do it. I did not read all of the comments, but, after only owning Toyotas since 1993 (two, 250K miles on each, original clutch on each), if I had seen this before I bought my 2019 Tacoma (free oil changes just ran out), I would have checked into other models. Remove skid plate? Filter is not near drain plug? Insert plastic piece to drain some used oil? TWO o-rings? Special tool to remove filter housing? Maybe two tools?? Off topic I guess, but ... I last had a 2002 Tundra. This 2019 Taco has no armrests, a one-level console, phone charger is buried at bottom of inside of console, glove box contents spill out, lots of engine noise, several owner's manuals, the biggest of which is 700 pages, with diagrams that do not correspond to what I see on my dashboard, all kinds of safety warnings EVERY time I start up, A/C defaults to 'recycle air' every time I start up, cannot dim dashboard lights completely, smart cruise control slows down "out of an abundance of caution" when you get anywhere near the vehicle ahead, a warning when the temp gets below 37 degrees (!!)..... I was in need of a new pickup quickly, so I jumped on this. It is reliable, yes, but overall is not what I expected. Just venting.

Good one, Eddie, on the tubing idea! I added a piece of 1/2" PEX tubing (PEX is the most common material used now for the water distribution systems in our houses so it is very easy to find).
