Great car. I bought one in February. After 3K miles, I get ~300 mpg. It's just so smooth, quiet and fun to drive. This car fulfils the promise of electric cars at a very reasonable price point. Try it fully charged, you will love it.

Thanks for your thorough review. I bought mine on May 5th, 2019 and it has been an amazing car since. I have 12k kilometers on it now and I have put in a total of $12.40 of fuel since I drove it off the lot. I have been using the free public charging station as much as possible and only charge if there is no range left for EV at my Level 2 charging station in my garage. I rides very smooth and quiet, I enjoy hearing the birds singing outside when I leave my house then the engine and road noise! I know the design is very subjective but I love the design as it looks like an old Citroen. This car resembles the Peugeot 508 in Europe and unfortunately it is hard to find one now at the dealers. I took advantage of the iZev rebate of $5000 when it first introduced on May 1st 2019 as well as the Clean Energy Vehicle $5000 rebate from the BC government which the dealer took off the $10,000 from the final priced I paid. The only issue that I don't like about this car is the engine coming on if you are going downhill when the battery is fully charged and the brake regen has no place to go, but the work around is have your battery only charge to 90% so the engine will not come on when you press the brakes or increase the amount of brake regen from your pedal. Grab it when it is still available in North America as Honda is trying to push the Honda e in Europe but not sure what full EV model they will be introducing in North America. Cheers!

I love my Clarity! I have a 2018 Touring I bought new in April of last year. I've put over 26 000 miles on it so far and all but 4500 or so on EV! It's everything I expected it to be and more: comfortable, quiet, huge, and dirt-cheap to run. Non-ICE-related maintenance cost of $159 so far (for a "brake inspection"). It is surprisingly fun to drive as well, though it's no S2000 (which I also am lucky enough to own). I would buy this car again in a heartbeat. Best of luck with the channel! -Brad

I've had my Clarity for almost a year and absolutely love it. I drive around 10-15 miles per day and have gone as much as 4K miles between gas station visits. I also just finished a 2K mile drive through Calidornia, Eastern Oregon and Washington and it handled beautifully. It was the first time I used the gas engine to any extent and it was tremendous. Highway speed was between 70 and 75 miles per hour and I realized almost 50 miles per gallon on the trip, using electric for only about 200 miles. My wife is very picky about comfort and many car seats don't suit her but the Clarity fits her nicely. And our twin 10 year old daughters enjoy the backseat. I consided the Volt and Prius when I purchased the Clarity but the room offered in the passenger compartment and trunk were important considerations. With the Clarity's EV range almost matching the Volt, the decision was made for me. Couldn't be happier. BTW, I visited my Hinda dealer here in Silicon Valley last week and they said they can't keep Clarity's on the lot. It is an indication of how production constraints (read battery availability) is a significant issue for EV manufacturers.

I agree with you on most points about the Clarity. My one big dislike is no lumbar support. I've been waiting for years, ever since the Volt came out, to buy a Honda plug-in hybrid. I was all set to buy a Clarity until I discovered there was no lumbar support. My back was hurting after a half hour test drive. I can't believe Honda cheaped out on the seats. Plus no leather seats here in the US. I ended up buying the Accord Touring Hybrid which handles much better than the Clarity and accelerates much quicker.

Worth mentioning is that the regenerative braking system dramatically reduces maintenance costs for brakes! Of course, this is not specific to any particular PHEV because they all benefit from this. My 2013 Ford C-Max Energi has 167,900 miles on it and every time I get the tires rotated - every 5,000 miles - I have them inspect the brakes and they're STILL like new! I've put three sets of tires on this car and never had to do anything to the brakes! And, let's not forget the reduced frequency of oil changes - every 12,000 miles for the Clarity and every 10,000 miles for my C-Max Energi. And, last, but not least, let's not forget that the ICE itself gets FAR less wear and tear because the electric motors are doing most of the work! About 2 out of every 3 miles I drive are electric and that number would only go up with the Clarity. Thanks, so much for the detailed review! I think I've found my new car to replace my C-Max Energi!

This does not look better than the Volt... I really don't like GM products but as you said, when looking for a PHEV or an EV, you have to make concessions. Would I prefer a Golf PHEV or Mazda 3 with 80km ev range or an E-Golf with 300km range and no 12 month waiting list? Of course. But since they don't exist, a Volt is the next best thing. And it's one of the very few GM products which actually has decent reliability (and yet, they killed it of course).

Great question, that's certainly true the tires on here are fuel saver eco tires, decent enough in the summer to help save a few bucks on fuel, but not something you'd want to rely heavily on when the weather gets rough. We've had great success with Toyo Observe G3 Ice tires on some of the vehicles we tested last year. Michelin X-Ice tires are also a great choice. That's a great question. It ultimately comes down to the plug-in aspect of the Clarity, it's the same reason why the Chevrolet Volt received the full EV tax credit despite being a PHEV.
