Both Nadal and Djokovic thouroughly deserve to win this tournament, even if they may prefer slow courts. I played on grass for a few days- UMASS was doing a study-testing on different types of grasses. It was so tricky, the ball slides and never seems to be in the sweet spot- very short rallies. Amazing how Rafa still gets under and just punishes the ball- what a beast!

Sammy Al Hashemi yeah bc its probably a hot day and the practice courts aren’t as well kept - a bit dryer because not watered as often and scruffy. Compare these conditions to centre court with the roof on, on a cool evening and the difference is crazy man.

@cristi dules on grass the trick is to serve well, hit a good slice, return well, hit a good forehand, move well, hit a good backhand, volley well, and hit a good smash. That's really all there is to it.

my favorite shot of the whole video is the backhand just before that one. he gets a nice comfortable lob to his left and makes it totally vanish. insane power. you can hear the guy recording kind of "woosh" his breath at it too.

Because believe it or not the ball travels much faster on grass. The only other court that travels quicker are the courts for the us open.

@@heistgotfame-6952 sorry but not only just this year I got close to first row seats and got to see the speed from first hand, the data around indicates otherwise. Also the ITF ranks court surfaces pretty category and us open is a category 2 surface (slow/medium ) ... Australia open is category 4. US open is not faster than this video not even by 100 miles. Even if ITF didn't make their ratings public one could tell just by the average rally length at the us open

His regular speed rally ball is absolutely oppressive. You can see how hard his practice partners have to work just to get 3 balls back in a row. I watched highlights of one of Rafa's past matches and Patrick McEnroe commented that Nadal hits every ball with "bad intentions." I thought that was on the money. He is merciless out there.

@@nsebast It's not even that, it's the fact that from the other side of the court every ball looks like it's going long, until the topspin dips it in. I've rallied against a high level player and it took about 30 shots to figure this out before could make decent contact

The practise courts are much faster than the play courts at Wimbledon. They also take a lot more pounding so have inconsistent bounce.

I'm a half-decent recreational player. I've played on a grass court once in my life and nothing could prepare me. It was pretty well maintained but even then, the way the ball skids off the court throws you off in ways you don't even understand how to correct (without proper coaching of course). I hit more frame balls that day than I probably did the whole rest of the year, and achieving deep groundstrokes seemed impossible.

I played at 4.0 level for years. I played a club pro once. We played 2 sets and I didn’t win a single point. I asked him how he’d compare to a tour pro.. He said he wouldn’t be able to win a single point. These guys are definitely on a whole other level
