So much for progress, in 2019 the R125 142 KG , 14 BHP and 80 mph in 1990 Aprilia RS125 114 KG ,34 BHP and 104 MPH, in fact way back in 1969 Yamahas YASI 125 twin was cracking 79 MPH .these were of course what the EU regards as the spawn of satan ...2 strokes!

This A1 15hp limit law is just dumb. “Less horsepower is safer and easier to learn on..” not completely true IMO. That 15hp limit will get you when you’re overtaking, on the highway, going up hills, etc. plus, you’ll get really bored of it really quickly - even if you’re completely new. And the horsepower isn’t the problem, the problem is how the horsepower and torque are both delivered that determine whether the motorcycle is learner friendly or not. Suzuki SV650... really good beginner bike; 75hp and 42ft-lb torque. And if someone is gonna tell me that a new rider may get whiskey throttle or panic or whatever.. then that new rider shouldn’t be on a bike at all yet because clearly they don’t fully understand how the bike works and how much control they have over the bike - or they just don’t understand the whole concept of motorcycle controls. Look at the KTM Duke 390 as well. I’d say thats one of the best beginner bikes of today. Put a new 16 or 17 year old on it and let them take their time to learn and they’ll be golden within a month with 40hp and 23ft-lb torque.
@flamrow1117

I Would love if they could make a super light 125, like 110-120 kg and max power with great aerodynamics for a better 0-100 and top speed. Of course this probably means bye bye comfort but I would still have gotten one.

David & Elizabeth why? It’s just an age restriction. Time flies by, starting on a small bike makes it alot more fun to upgrade. When you start on a 600, there is not much to be amazed about when you get used to it. Plus, we don’t need teens riding liter bikes 120mph in town areas, some ”adults” that do that are already enough in terms of quantity...

So i understood that the bike has to have less than 15hp for certain license. What if you sneak 19hp r15 engine in that bike? With aftermarket ecu and exhaust, 21hp easy. Or get bigger block, head, throttle body, and cam. Youre looking at 28hp. Still relatively cheap if you stay in Malaysia.
