Hi - thank you for the great series on restoring this machine. One comment - I think you have the screws reversed on the faceplate attachment. If you look at the faceplate I think you'll see that the upper hole is slotted. If you install the regular screw in the upper hole then all you have to do is loosen the upper screw and remove the lower thumbscrew in order to remove the front plate. That is how the screws are positioned on my 201 and the manual makes reference to just loosening the upper screw in order to remove the cover. Great job in salvaging a sorely neglected vintage machine!

Thank you very much 😁. Ah yes with the face plate screws, I realised after and changed them around. I was also told that the 201 does not need to have grease on the cogs and that just oil is needed - I've since oiled them so no harm done. This 201 is now in a treadle and is so much fun to use. The only thing I have found with my 201 is it works much better with a horizontal thread post. I also have an aluminium 201 MK2 and he also prefers a horizontal thread post - they get moody with crosswound thread.. whereas my 66k (Mr Crunchface) is not fussed at all with thread 😁

You may find that magnetic ended screw drivers are helpful getting into fiddly thingy places( from my engineer husband! )
