I just bought a pair for that reason. I, too, am in my 50s. I'm skiing a 180CM Atomic Vantage 97ti, but wanted to add a "later in the day" softer ski where I could enjoy some more leisurely skiing as well (the mornings are often spent skiing more aggressively with a group of ex-racers). I'm 6ft 220ish and went with the 188CM. I'm a little worried the extra length will make the ski less fun, playful and/or maneuverable, but I was worried I'd overpower the 18O. I hope I made the right call. Thoughts? Thank you both!
@SkiEssentials

@@c_kennmusic5737 I think you'll be fine on the 188 cm. With the amount of rocker and the HRZN tech in the tips and tails, they're pretty manageable in longer lengths. 180 cm could get a little squirrelly at your size, I agree.

@SkiEssentials

I agree, overall it's pretty similar to the Marksman. Obviously there are differences, most obvious being the Marksman is much wider and asymmetrical, but they're both designed as playful twin tips that love soft snow. You'd need a lot of skis in your quiver to justify having both, that's for sure, but I could see someone doing it. Marksman's definitely better as a powder ski, however.

I skied it last year out at Snowbird and had a blast. Had the Backland 117 for when it was really deep and switched over to the Chetler 100 a few days later. Was a perfect ski for that. Coming from an Enforcer 93, I did find that I could overpower it if I wanted to, but it was much more playful, so ideal for the conditions. Almost pulled the trigger on getting one, but opted for an Enforcer 104 instead. I feel like I could almost use both to be honest.... How would you guys compare the Chetler to the Vantage 90Ti? You seemed to be really high on that ski and it's quickness edge to edge. Jeff, Hope you get better soon! Sending positive vibes!
@SkiEssentials

Vantage 90 Ti is much stiffer than the Bent Chetler 100. It's a crazy quick ski that's super responsive, but definitely less versatile and less playful. When I'm skiing the Vantage, I prefer being on firm snow. With the Bent Chetler, it's the opposite. How do you like your Enforcer 104s? Unfortunately I didn't get to ski my pair very much before I got hurt, but I have a lot of fun on that ski.

@@SkiEssentials Thanks for the response and input regarding the Vantage 90 TI. I skied the Enforcer 104s up a Stowe this past weekend. With Saturday and Sunday being drastically different, they were put to the test and didn't disappoint. Had an absolute blast and felt there was really nothing I couldn't ski with them. Handled the heavier snow with ease on Saturday and tore through the light windblown powder on Sunday. Ice as secondary surface was a theme both days and that was no problem for the 104s. Also found them fairly quick edge to edge for a ski that wide. Similar to my Enforcer 93s, but better in every way. If/when I find something I don't like I'll let you know :-)

Hi fellas...got a pair after watching your video as had been thinking about. What would be your preference in terms of a favourite binding for this ski (188)? Thanks in advance. Lou
@SkiEssentials
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lou! My personal preference on a ski like the Bent Chetler 100 would be a Look Pivot, but Wardens, Attacks, Griffon/Jester could also work. The reason why I like the Pivot on a ski like the BC 100 is it has more elastic travel in the heel and a shorter drill pattern. Both of those things allow the ski to flex more naturally underfoot, which is nice on a ski that's designed to be fairly soft-flexing to begin with. It's a small difference in feel overall, but if I had to choose a preference, it would be the Pivot.

Hi there, keep the good work, we all enjoy it from this side. I'm about to buy one of these Bent Chetlers 100, but really in doubt about the size. I'm 175 cm tall, 65 kgs weight, and an intermediate/advanced ski in Spain/France, who loves to go on the sides of the slopes playing and freeride inbetween slopes and trees. Also wanting to start on park, totally beginner on that yet. I'm leaning to the 172 version, what do you think? I run some Blizzard Rustler 10 on 180 cm now, i love them, but for playing in short turns and for park i feel them a bit too long. I also skimo and the Bent Chetlers will be for that also.
@SkiEssentials

I think 172 cm is a great choice. Couple benefits to that. You'll get quicker performance for short turns, it'll be more maneuverable, and also easier to ski. Particularly in the park, you'll progress faster on the 172. The only downside to that length would be a lack of stability, but at your size and ability level, I can pretty much guarantee that won't be an issue. Hope that helps!

They're both a lot of fun, and both pretty similar, but to me the Bent Chetler is more playful, especially in light powder days. The HRZN Tech gives it a super surfy, fun feel on those ~6 inch powder days. -4 will work really well. It's not the most powerful or the most stable at speed, but it's also pretty good on groomers. Again, it's not going to feel like a race ski and there are plenty of other skis in this width range with more power and more edge grip, but the fact that the Bent Chetler 100 uses relatively high camber does give it pretty good grip and a nice snappy feel when exiting a turn. I skiid the 100s all season last year in CO, UT, MT. This ski does a solid job at everything and it's SUPER quick but IMO powder is its worst performing area. Something about its shape (small rocker, narrow shovels?) makes it feel narrower than 100 in powder, I've never felt like I've had enough ski in anything over a few inches. Both last year and this year I've been swapping between the Chetler 100 and a wider ski (Rossignol s7 last year, black crows atris this year). If you live in the West and you want a 1-ski quiver, this will be too narrow for most skiers. That said if you want a 2 ski quiver on the west coast this is a FANTASTIC choice for your narrower ski.

Curious how you would compare the bentchetler 100 to the Nordica enforcer 104 free. Obviously 2 very different skis but curious in the trade offs of each and which would suit me best. As a skier I tend to be one to ski the more technical terrain on the mountain (bumps, steeps, woods) and love to be in the air jumping and spinning around the mountain. But being an east coast skiers there’s plenty of days where the woods just aren’t filled in or the bumps are too icy to be fun. So I do find myself of groomers from time just laying over turns. I understand from watching both reviews that the Nordica can handle carving much better, but how do they compare when it comes to tight technical terrain? Also I’m currently on the K2 marksman which I really enjoy for its playfulness as it’s a softer ski but find it to be a little sluggish edge to edge when things get tight but handles carving pretty well once you open it up.

The biggest difference is the weight and stability factor. The Enforcer is much more stable at speed, and also has better torsional stiffness/edge grip on firm snow, but it's heavier. The Bent Chetler 100 isn't particularly stable at speed, but it's lighter and super easy to flick around. In my opinion, the BC 100 is a little easier for tight technical terrain just due to the swing weight and overall fatigue, but the Enforcer 104 isn't tremendously difficult either. In my opinion, it comes down to how much stability you want. Want to be able to open it up and feel confident at speed? Enforcer is probably the ticket.

If you consider yourself a more playful/freestyle oriented skier go with the chetlers. If you're a more traditional, classic style skier go with the enforcers. They'er both technically considered to be freeride skis, but the enforcer is much more beefy and aggressive (heavier, more metal). As a freeride ski the chetler is very light, very quick, very easy to ski, and fairly playful. As a free ride ski, the enforcer is pretty heavy, hard charging, confidence-inspiring, and kinda demanding.

I've been skiing on the old NRGy 90 series from Nordica and love their light weight and playfulness vs. the heavier and more demanding Enforcer 93 which I've demoed multiple times. My NRGy's are in pretty rough shape at this point and I found a still new set of NRGy 100's on ebay. Curious how you would compare the Bent Chetler 100's to the NRGy 100's.

Bent Chetler has more freestyle/freeride influence in its design. Softer flexing and more rocker. It's designed more for playful soft snow skiing, while the NRGY 100 is a directional all-mountain ski that also does quite well in soft snow. Just a different overall feel, but a NRGY 100 for $200 is a steal!

I've been looking at a powder ski for my fiance. She's an experienced but average female skier. Thoughts on putting her on a 164 CM?

It's very easy to ski so it wouldn't be too big, it encourages a playful style so I guarantee she would enjoy it. But if I were you and bothering to get a powder-oriented ski I'd be inclined to go with something that's also easy-ish to ride but slightly wider. On the East Coast I'd say you could go for it but on the West Coast I wouldn't

About the 164, I'll just say that this is a ski where I wouldn't be afraid to go longer and wouldn't recommend going shorter

Hey Jake! What's her height and weight? It's a very approachable ski, so I'm sure she could ski it. Where do you live and ski? As a first time powder ski, it should be plenty wide, even if you live out west. It can be hard for skiers to transition to a really wide ski if they've never skied something like that before. Let me know her size and where you ski and I'll reply again!

Skiessentials.com she’s about 5’ 5” 115. we live in CO so we ski Vail a bit. She’s never skied anything wider than probably a 65mm. I figured 164, 100 mm would provide more than enough surface area to give her enough floatation to ski the back bowls while still being manageable for her.

@@jakewells9309 Yes, I agree. Go for it. That should be a really good ski for her to start transitioning into new terrain like the back bowls. Lightweight and manageable, but far more capable than her narrow skis. Someday, you may want to go wider, but doing so now would likely slow her progression and she'd feel a little out of control.

What’s this ski like in soft snow? I’m interested in a ski that is 50/50. I’ll have a piste ski. So I want a true all mountain ski. I like this or the rustler 9 or QST 99/92

It's amazing in soft snow.

I just skied it on a medium ish podwer day in steamboat and they skied great. It gets a little difficult if you get into some really deep stuff but theyre good for soft stuff definitely

As other have said, it's pretty amazing in soft snow. Good float and maneuverability for a 100 mm ski. It only gets bogged down in the REALLY deep stuff. If you already have a piste ski, this could work really well. QST 99 could too. That ski feels more directional, slightly less stable, but slightly more stable at speed.

Did bob ever get his hands on the 188?

I'm pretty sure he's taken the 188 out since this review, yes! Any specific questions I should relay to him?

How do you compare this to the Bonifide and or the Enforcer 104? Good tree ski?
@SkiEssentials
4 жыл бұрын
Good tree ski, yes, but much softer flexing and much more playful than both those skis, especially the Bonafide. It's more like if you took the Enforcer 104 and took all the metal out of it. But, yes, it's a fantastic tree ski.

@@SkiEssentials Kinda torn... I jump off everything but also really love driving turns as hard as possible pushing the ski to its limits. I was thinking the enforcer 100 be a good middle ground or I could just grab both the bonafide and this chetler 100 and swap depending on the day and how my legs are feeling.

@@hardleesoft5919 I'd go either Enforcer 104, or the Bonafide and a Bent Chetler 100. The Enforcer 104 has a good blend of everything you want to do and would certainly work. The Bonafide and Bent Chetler would be more expensive, of course, but would have more focused performance.

@@SkiEssentials I ended up snagging the enforcer 100s for a ridiculous deal and will use as a resort/alpine setup. I have the new ARV JJs/shift setup for pow days and touring so I was leaning for something a little smaller underfoot. Awesome reviews!! have fun testing all the new stuff!
