Frankly, everybody is getting obsessed with more power, but is it all necessary ? I have a Jam2 9.7 with 378wh and I rode 65km 1000+ one battery and still had 2 bars on, mixing mainly eco and trail, and some boost when it got really steep. I don't regret 378wh, still considering buying the TEC pack for resale value and the very (very) occasional full day ride with more than 2000D+. But in the end, unless I want to exclusively ride on boost mode, will I use it ? And would that still be mtb riding ?

I would agree very much that the quest for more power is not the most important factor. To their credit Focus do sell the Raven2 which is a carbon hardtail with 250wh battery.

Such simple thing like that flip chip, with a full 27.5 set (wheels and fork) you can run 3 bikes on 1 Hope it comes as and standard thing in all brands

Are you sure that the small size frame comes with the 504 w battery? I asked the same question to Focus Bikes directly and they replied all the batteries are the same size. I only asked as I've ordered a small size Jam2 6.7. This was their reply, Hi Andrew, each frame size has the same battery capacity. All the best, Aike

I like that you can change the wheels from 29 inches to 27,5 but I am confused by what the motor will think about it as I can’t change the wheel size on a bosch motor bike so if you go to a 27,5 inch wheels will you motor go over 25km the or? How does it work?

Is there a "T.E.C" pack version for Bosch just like the shimano? That would be awesome if that "Intube" is paired with 500w power tube battery...

We've had this clarified by Focus. It's not as good as it was first made out. The Bosch 625wh system CAN be boosted by adding an additional 500wh Bosch battery to the downtube via the bottle mounts but only on the Jarifa model, which is the hardtail.

‘... switches motors to the much improved Bosch CX 4th generation motor.’ To clarify, the Bosch 4th gen motor is improved over the 3rd gen, OR, the bike is improved with having the Bosch motor fitted over the Shimano?
@singletrack

Hi Chris, The new Bosch CX motor is an improvement over the previous motor. Increased torque, smaller size and weight plus better software controlling the power - in particular in eMTB mode. We are looking forward to giving the Shimano Steps e8000 system & the Bosch CX 4thgen a run against each other soon :-)

I do wish people would stop saying “acoustic” to refer to a regular Mtb. It’s has nothing to do with SOUND. It’s “analogue” or “manual” if anything at all.

Noise of motors is a bug bear of mine and having discussed this with the Focus guys it would appear that it's predominantly a British bug bear at that. It seems the Europeans don't care as much as the Brits do about the noise of motors. I'd say that the noise is still there with the Bosch motor in so far as it's always been - no worse, no better. The Shimano 8035 (Correction - e8000) motor is quieter and the Brose/Specialized motors are my favourite when it comes to stealth operation.

Singletrack Magazine you mentioned E8035 motor a couple of times, I thought it was just a battery designation. Are you saying the motor was updated at the same time? I have an early Jam2 and it wails like a banshee when under load. That and the small battery are the only drawbacks I have found with ownership.

Ecythump, you are quite correct to question that. My mistake. I was comparing the e7000 with the e8000. There is no e8035. There is a BT-8035.. BT = battery. My bad

The Fiat is load because some people think is cool. Or it's got a knackered exhaust. Either way having a knackered or big bore exhaust on a diesel is one of the most mind numbingly stupid things. Even worse than a road bike with rim brakes.

Batter than the E8000?
@singletrack
5 жыл бұрын
Good question. I only got to ride this bike for half a day and there was no Shimano E8000 bike to hand for a comparison, however I think the new Bosch CX motor IS better than the E7000. But whether it's better than the new E8000 is another question. The eMTB mode on the CX is much better than the old version. I found it was much closer to an assist mode rather than a pure boost and by that I mean it did react very fast to my input and matched it rather than being too heavy handed with the power. We'll have more to say about the CX motor in the coming weeks as we ride more bikes equipped with it.

@@singletrack Well, the previous JAM2 had the Steps 8000, and the Pro had the integrated Di2 system. It also had the potential for 756Wh total capacity with the TEC pack. Honestly this almost looks like a step back on paper.
