I bought a used 2016 Civic Touring sedan with 9,950 miles on it last year for my daily driver and it's been an absolutely solid purchase with no issues whatsoever (sorry Corolla fanboys, no "alleged" oil dilution in my car). I drive almost 80 highway miles a day roundtrip from home to work and back and the gas mileage is still nearly 40mpg, which is pretty good considering my right foot makes full use of the 1.5L turbo. Other than routine maintenance, I haven't had to spend hardly any money in over 1 1/2 years of ownership and just over 33,000 miles added to the odometer. I'm curious what Honda has in store for the 11th gen Civic in a few years. There's no way I could ever recommend the new Corolla over this 10th gen Civic. Its powertrain performance, driving characteristics, passenger comfort and cargo storage, and interior amenities are just hard to beat in my opinion.
@hamsterama
4 жыл бұрын
As for powertrain, I'm not so sure that the Civic beats the Corolla. I will very soon be buying another new car (with a manual transmission), and I'm going to get a Corolla. The advantage to the Corolla is that the engine is both port and direct injected. Buying a direct-only injection, like the Civic, makes me uneasy. For me, the deciding factor is the engine. Sure, Toyotas are boring, and their designs are kinda meh, but their cars won't need an expensive valve cleaning service.
@DS..69

@@hamsterama Word
@ivanlowjones
4 жыл бұрын
@@hamsterama You can't understand the Civic's powertrain beating the Corolla's powertrain? The Corolla XSE has a 168 or 169hp non-turbo powerplant. The Civic's 1.5L turbo puts out 174hp or 180hp in the Civic hatchback configuration. The Civic Si (205hp) or the Type-R (306hp) both surpass the Corolla XSE horsepower output, by my math. Dumping a $5 bottle of Gumout or Seafoam throttle and valve cleaner into the fuel tank every 5,000 miles or so should eliminate any contaminates that may build up and cause the potential engine damage to which you alluded. Since you didn't refute any of the other Civic strengths I mentioned, can we assume your concession that the Civic trounces the Corolla yet again?
@hamsterama
4 жыл бұрын
@@ivanlowjones Did you not read my comment carefully? I only talked about the engine. I'm well aware that Honda makes fun cars, and the Civic would be more fun than a Corolla. It's just that for me, personally, I'm just too nervous about buying a straight GDI engine. I'm sure Toyota has a very good reason that they build their engines with both GDI and port injection, and with no turbos. For me, because I buy new and keep the car forever, reliability is more important than anything else. All car brands have different strengths and weaknesses. I think it's a good thing that everyone can choose a car based on what's important to them.

This seems to be a complete carry over from its debut last year, for 2019, with the Sport hatchback finally getting all the added features the Civic Sport Sedan has, that it lacked for 2019. I am slightly disappointed that it does not have the new updated 2020 Sport Hatchback wheels, though this wheels are still very nice, I just like the new wheels even better. This is my entry level consideration for the best practical sporty car, with the most reliability, durability and longevity, with the N/ 2.0L engine, especially if you opt for the 6 Speed manual. My next consideration would be the Civic Sport Hatchback, but even might get the 2020 Civic Si Sedan, with all the upgrades, and improvements. Lots of people say the Sport Sedan should have a turbo, but that was not what Honda had in mind. It was specifically made for the mainstream consumer, that wanted the sporty appearance, handling and amenities over the LX, without the added maintenance and care of the turbo engine, since many who buy this may have family members of various ages driving it. All in all, this is a great car as is. I just wish it had the new wheels, a CD player, or at least an auxiliary audio input jack. What's great for the new Civics and Accords is that there is an Alpine stereo upgrade kit for these two models without the top level high powered stereo with a DSP processor, amplifier and power subwoofer that fits under the front passenger seat for about $750, that is available from Crutchfield.com or probably from your local Alpine Car Stereo retailer. There's a different model fir the Civic And Accord, with the same features. The mounting hardware may differ. Great, informative videos, as always.

We have a dedicated video talking about the oil dilution issue in Honda's. If you do a search for 'oil dilution Honda' you should find it. Hope it helps!

It's time for a new one. Been out for 4 years now. Nissan just took a hot dump on the segment with the new Sentra, unless Honda has a plan, it's about to get dethroned

Yes the new Sentra looks lovely but let’s see how it’s CVT holds up.

Devon Gee all vehicles go through a basic 5 year cycle. The new generation debuts and remains untouched for 3 years and it receives a refresh for the next 2. After that it gets a complete redesign. The Nissan Sentra just got redesigned after the old one was out since 2014.

@@stefanb.5154 There's usually a mid cycle refresh in between... Something Honda has either chosen not to do much with or not at all (I haven't noticed). All civics from 2016 onward look the same to me. Civic is overdue but now all the Honda's look the same so I wonder if they plan on committing to their boring new front fascia or have the Civic be the first fresh face.

Devon Gee they did a mid cycle refresh for 2019. 2016 was the start of the generation and 2019 was the refresh. Nothing major happened except for the grill going from chrome to black. Also a lot more features became standard.
