Good video. Only thing I would suggest is fill the oil filter before installing.

Just got a 20 Kona. I'm with you, I'm 59 and can't recall ever having my oil changed in any of my cars or trucks by a dealer or jiffy lube type place, too much risk of leaving the filter or plug loose or crossthreading them.

You can use Honda washers for the drain plug they’re the same diameter

I recommend you let the dealer carry out the first oil change for a new Kona, afterwards you can do as you please so long as you keep receipts of all parts and service interval info, just in case you get the all too usual AH response about warranty disqualification bs. Dont trust dealerships!

I don't trust dealerships---that's why I don't want them to change the oil, not even once.

I LOVED IT! all others where silent and no suggestions like you. I will be changing the oil myself (dealer has done 3x for free as part of contracts) ( there is a recall on oil plugs?....hum gota check letter or maybe the gaskets.... oh well) My question is (no I have not been under yet, watching vids first) but are those openings open like that or are there covers and can I can remove easily? also how many times do you switch out the washer? I know the washer comes with dealer OME purchase too, but husband bought at Wally Mart too. Do you, at this time do tire rotation and re-fill fluids oh and the air filters too don't exclude the cabin filter either....pa-lease. Also...I know....I got a lot of questions...did you wipe off all excess oil around the nut an filter(hate to have dust in there) oh tell wife love her car lol mine is the sunset orange. Me and my dog fit perfectly. Again THM YOU so much.

Thank you for the compliment! I believe it is on the oil rings, not the oil plugs. The oil rings are located on the pistons and scrape the cylinder walls to remove oil so that it doesn't enter the combustion chamber and get burned off---at least that is my understanding. So without that being covered under the warranty that would be a super costly repair. That is deep within the engine and requires disassembly of the pistons. The opening for the filter? Yeah, it was just open like that. I believe the one for the oil plug was as well---just open like that, I'm 90% sure. As for the crush washer, I would just do a Google search on it cuz I honestly don't know. I think some manufacturers recommend changing them out with each use, but in the real world I don't believe that happens. As long as the oil plug isn't leaking that's all that matters. I suppose the crush washer may protect the oil pan somewhat. I have heard of people using copper/brass washers as crush washers---you can get them at Harbor Freight. I would do tire rotations every 6,000 miles. You will need four jack stands to do this in a reasonable fashion and a low cost 1/2" drive deep impact socket set and electric impact wrench at Harbor Freight would be super helpful if not necessary. Lug nuts need to be torqued---probably to 90ish foot pounds on this car. Once again, you can get a 1/2" drive torque wrench at Harbor Freight. If you don't wanna buy all that, obviously you can take it to a tire shop to do a tire rotation at a fairly low cost. I haven't checked the cabin or engine air filter on that vehicle because it's so new but yeah, typically annually on both of those. Some cars don't have cabin filters, but I suspect that this one does. It's typically just behind the glove box drawer, just remove the drawer in most cases with a screwdriver or sometimes no tools at all. There are typically very good KZitem videos on that. Amazon is a great place to buy both of those filters. I would just check the fluids. There should be good videos out there that show how to do it, probably ChrisFix on KZitem has some. I suspect you won't need to replace any fluids for quite a long time other than washer fluid, fuel, and motor oil. As for wiping off the oil, I would wipe off the drain plug so it's not absolutely caked in oil, but I don't think you have to try that hard with it, just wipe it with a paper towel. I like to wipe the mounting surface of the oil filter (the circular metal piece where the circular portion of the oil filter screws onto. I like to wipe the old oil off of that and maybe gently scrape off any gunk, but the gunk shouldn't be there yet on a car this new, just wipe it with a paper towel probably. As in the video, dip your finger into some new oil, or old if fine too I'm sure, and wipe it around the gasket on the oil filter, that will keep the gasket from grinding in between the oil filter and the mounting surface and just keep it to where it can be tightened and mashed down like it should be. You should just hand-tighten the oil filter. This will sound sexist so I apologize but I think it's fair to assume most women who don't work on cars have weaker hands than a man who does, so maybe take both hands to tighten it. But don't use a wrench. Just hand-tighten. It may not be a bad idea to use a torque wrench on the oil plug bolt as well, but using a standard length wrench and snugging it up again, possibly with two hands, should suffice. German torque standards will probably do fine, that is, "Guttenteit" ("good and tight." I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for watching and maybe subsribe as well.

Just so you know. Went good. Did have a hard time getting oil filter off but after getting the right size 80mm 15 flute to remove it all went smooth hahah thank you Matt Also will invest in ramps because hard to place the floor lift and girls aren't flat either. Thanks
@mattmgarza

@@angie3785 Haha...yeah, ramps are good. Just an FYI, that size cup wrench will not necessarily fit if you change oil filter brands. So if you're satisfied with that oil filter, keep using it so you can keep that cup wrench. Or if you wanna change brands, bring the cup wrench with you to be sure it fits.

Yeah, that I did do, now have 2 cup wrenches. 1 for walmart brand and Hyundai lol was to funny , because told the husband we needed it and he said nah... you got this. Silly man had to run to a dealership for it but was much cheaper and available there. oh and grab me some washers too! Nexy time "I" will be prepared, lol thank you again. Make vid rotating tires and adding lug-nut lock to it too. Pa-lease😁

Yes, Walmart's Supertech oil is very good. I buy only Dexos-certified full-synthetic, and Supertech makes such an oil. Ask around and you'll find out. You don't know what you're talking about, you're just a keyboard warrior who is too lazy to make a better video so you've gotta hate on others.
