I've had one for 5 Months and done 7500 Klms on it, and love it to bits, i also have a 1000 cc ADV Bike for the long hauls. But prefer to ride the 390. It's just so much fun !!

I gave one of these a proper workout on some nasty tracks the other day and I can tell you, for what this bike is designed for - the allow wheels aren't an issue. Great bike.

I hear the KTM 250 FRONT sprocket is an economical way to get more lower end grunt! Plug and play!

There is no R version planned, but they say there are power part accessories inc wire wheels. The 490 will gave a more off road biased R version.

Sad face.. I think they would make some cash with an R version, but then again would it have the rally mode like the 790? Prob just needs spoke wheels and suspension kit and you make your own

Steve Fraser and if I beg your indulgence, because you’re in the west and have ridden the bike.... I want something to tool around on in the Margs region, ride down the occasional unsealed road to a beach and, as I say, once in a while ride to perth at Legal-ish speed. It’s this ir the cb500x, which I have ridden briefly. Been riding all my life on everything from a R1200R to a 150 Vespa. My last proper bike was a Triumph Tiger 800 XC ( too tall). What would you do. There’s 1000 dollars in it, although the Bunbury KTM dealer has a very low km Demo for $8000 all up. Cheers and thanks again.

Always good watching a review and recognising the areas :-). How comfortable did it sit on 100kph? Im down in Mandurah so it would be seeing 110kph too, this is why im slightly apprehensive. Spoked rims would make this the almost perfect package but I hear that package will come in 2022 in the form of a 490 ;-)

It cruises well at 110kph - I think it would be good for around 150kph flat out

How's the suspension ? Is it comfortable over rough roads ?
@FraserSteve
4 жыл бұрын
I found it a bit stiff on the short ride I did on the gravel, but in fairness I did not adjust any of the suspension. I think it would work well after a bit of set up for rider weight and rebound and damping etc.

Is it better than an honda CB500X?
@DanTube2010
4 жыл бұрын
I think the CB500X is more road biased and should be a bit smoother with 2 cylinders. The KTM should be better for light off-road and loose surfaces.

I want to see a comparison between similarly equipped adv bikes of 300-400, 800 & 1200 cc advs. From capability standpoint. Yes the torque and power and weight figures will be different but on ground I wish to see how each of them enhance or limits the human capability.

Narendra Kembhavi it is on the average side for an adventure bike, but still reasonably tall. much lower than the 1290 Adventure R that I own I am 177cm and I found it about perfect.

Yup. i own one. Before lock down did 800 km round trip. 400 km in a day is no problem on highways ! returns an average of more than 30 km/ litre (more like 35-36) if u dont ride it like a hooligan ! Does 100 km/ hr all day without breaking a sweat. Soaks up bad roads n bumps easy. Has lots of after market touring mods. Carves traffic quite easily. A bit tall though. I am 5’8” so its just about right for my in-seam length. Anyone with less than 5’5” height is gonna be a bit uneasy putting the foot down while stopping. but again its just a a matter of skills n balance ! so not a deal breaker in any way.
