Here's my take on the top 3 at the 2020 Olympia Classic Physique, featuring: 1. Chris Bumstead 2. Terrence Ruffin 3. Breon Ansley Don't forget to follow me on Instagram: / tomn8er1
Ok one more legitimate reason I could see Ruffin taking 2nd is because he matched up better against Breon in the finals. Based on the scorecards it's possible they simply combine scores from the morning and night show into one number, because 212 also only has one overall score. Still, this is dumb, lazy, and not very logical or transparent... In other words, typical IFBB BS. Sorry not sorry.

That’s a lot more than Chris won which is ridiculous based on popularity alone. But, I have a feeling that figure could potentially be based on the sheer number of competitors in that division in the amateurs, who pay extremely high entrance fees to compete in the NPC ( $250 per class + $250 late entry fee ) which I assume, business wise, directly effects the prize money in the IFBB. My friend competed in an local NPC show at my old high school and besides the tickets being over $100 total for my gf and I to watch hours of amateur men’s physique and women. They are making plenty of money. Plus, I always hear Palumbo talking about the women’s divisions and men’s physique carrying the majority of shows around the world. But I also know classic is very popular in the amateurs as well, so who knows. May take a few years for the prize money to build up but they are certainly making a lot of more off the athletes than they are giving back to them. Edit: NPC Nationals ticket price: Friday Pre-Judging $50.00 Saturday Prejudging $50.00 Saturday Finals - $80.00 a ticket! So $180.00 if you want to watch a family member or friend in all 3 events in the amateurs!

To clarify, they do judge finals and posing routine, but they do the final score at the end. If anything the prejudging makes the least difference since because it’s judged like this you tend to have more situations where the better guy at finals and posing gets the nod. This explains Terrence getting 2, as he was matching breon much better in the mandatories in finals, had a very comparable posing routine (which looked more classic since he looks more classic) and had a generally more classic physique overall. The increase in performance at the night show was likely enough to have the judges give the nod to him for his better classic look

Hello Tom, chris bum was measured higher this year than last year, which of course allowed him more weight. how did he know he was being measured higher? otherwise he would have had too much weight than allowed? I always thought bodybuilding tends to make you smaller, but the opposite is the case with cbum. Greetings from Germany.

Bumstead is i think 7 lbs heavier than Last year. He is between two height classes. I think in the Last two years he was measured in the bigger class and is allowed Top weigh 240 lbs instead of 230 Thats Why he managed to bring up its weakpoints so crazy. And i think the „funny Thing“ in his Right hamstrings comes from the hamstringtear he Had in last years prep.

And he still made weight for the 230 cap this year. imagine him going for the 240 cap instead, that would be insane!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but that weird knot you see in chris’ hamstring in the back poses is in fact from an injury he had back in 2018 when he tore his hamstring.

A few points. - They combine the scores. They score posing hence Ruffin moved up - Chris wins BDB easily. Breon looks like 212 - they don’t score based on who won how many poses. They look at overall shape and conditioning, then muscularity in that order. Hence Someone with better shape less muscle (Ruffin) will win

As a competitive bodybuilder and coach, my eyes are seeing an oil abscess on that hamstring. I’s not a usual place to inject but, it could easily be like you say with the injury, he has injected a compound to promote recovery and carry him through training .

I think the judges were sending a clear message about the definition of what makes for a "classic physique" with the decision to give Ruffin 2nd. It's the same reason as to why George Peterson never place above 3rd. Breon does have classic qualities for sure, but Ruffin has more; Breon is more of a bodybuilder by comparison to Ruffin, whose overall structure, smaller waist, v-taper, and flow are just "prettier" than Breon's and arguably more "classic." I think they were saying - this is what a tall classic physique looks like with CBum, and this is what a short classic physique looks like with Ruffin, because it can't all be a tall man's game. Breon's struggling to make weight is further evidence that in order to improve he has to move up divisions. He also talked too much shit
@crateog9680

@Shm00ly

@@crateog9680 he also looks blocky. The proportions are just off. I mean it was a close run thing - and anyway Ruffins abs looked stellar. Breon chose to use his time next to the clear winner to jostle and pester. The judges can only judge what they see on stage and if he is distracting from his physique with silly games then he only has himself to blame.

What was surprising to me, was that Chris was the best classic physique, AND the best bodybuilder in the entire classic physique division. Breon used to be the better bodybuilder, but now that Chris improved upon his back & arms, and came in bigger than ever, he stomped Breon to bedrock man, even if they theoretically were open class bodybuilders.

The Classic is so much more eye appealing and more attainable. Im now a huge fan of Classic, so yeah the pay needs to go up and give more attention. Great Video and new Subber.

Chris still made weight for the 230 weight cap this year. While it's his second year in a row he's measured taller and allowed to weight 240 actually. Hope he can mark that 240 cap and really reach his ultimate potential. Will be dominating the class for the next decade is he continues this path, absolutely lightyears ahead of the rest.

I think the argument that Ruffin's shape is more what they want as a "classic" look than the structure of Breon. Him the George Peterson have the similar issue in their builds and how they relate to classic. Though I will say that during all the prep and lead up photos Breon looked more convincing than what he showed on stage. Its just a much more subjective view than even what bodybuilding is, and going on the purely bodybuilding part by part comparison doesn't create a fool proof measure on who wins. Part of me assumes thats kinda how Physique works too, and its 212 where it transitions into a much more "this body part/pose is more conditioned and bigger looking than the other guy"

I think it's acceptable because they all hit a conventional ab and thigh first. If Bumstead only did the vacuum, that would almost be tantamount to cheating.

@@Tomn8er yep i got what you say.. I just don't know if they get more points by hitting the vacuum or hitting the abs and thighs.. because the vacuum is not mandatory posee
