1812 Overture At one time I worked for a Chaplain at the Presidio of San Francisco, who is now dead. He was from Georgia and had been and went back to being a farmer when he retired. Though this is probably from Grady Nutt, He always reminded me of when we went to staff meetings, leaning back against the wall with a broom straw in his mouth, pulling on his ear lobe and saying: That puts me in mind of a story. In one of our assignments through or around Washington DC we took a small boy child to a presentation of this number for the 4th o July at Fort Mc Henry. Baltimore, MD When we arrived the United States Army had artillery pieces set up at the end of the field where the presentation was to take place. All throughout the presentation said little boy kept saying: Daddy, when are they going to shoot the cannons? When we finally got to that portion of the program and they fired the first salvo of cannons, said boy, climbed to the top of and did a tap dance on my head. He was SO Scared.

Ummmmm, singing the anthem of which country caused you to cry? In the overture of 1812, 2 anthem's are played. The anthem of the French Republic and the Russian Empire(After the February Revolution) - the Marseillaise and the anthem of the Russian Empire(Before the February Revolution) -God save the Tsar(Боже, Царя храни). P. S. The anthem of the Russian Empire after the February Revolution(not the October Revolution), unlike the anthem of France, was called the Workers ' Marseillaise(Рабочая марсельеза) . The anthem of the USSR International(интернационал) was originally performed to the tune of the Marseillaise. P. S. S. Initially, the work plays two anthem's of the Marseillaise and God save the tsar(an allegory for the war between France and Russia in 1812), but today, in the overture of 1812, 3 Russian anthem's and one French one are played

Love this music. Wish KZitem publicized it more on my feed ... found it scrolling through my subscribed channels. Seems to be misnamed ... there's so much good music here ... it's just not the 1812 overture (mostly) so it will make it hard to find on KZitem.

Why is our Army's band playing a hymn of praise to the Russian czar, and which features another country's national anthem?

Because it is part of classical music's repertoire. These are professional musicians. Grow up! God Bless America and Слава России!
