I just installed on my TRD Pro with the skid plate. I used a jack to hold up the back and started, but not tighten, the front long screws first before re-installing the cross bars. By doing it this way I was able to pull the shield back some and see where the bolt was going into the bracket. I got all the front bolts started in just a couple minutes. Saved a ton of time and did not have to remove the skid plate. I never had to put a hand above the cross member to help start the bolts. Would recommend doing in this order.

2. For each cross bar, I removed both of the rear screws, and the outboard screw at the forward end. I loosened the other forward screw just enough to permit the cross bar to rotate out. When it came time to place the shield, I rotated the cross bars in place to hold the shield. 3. I placed the threaded plate in position and then hung a 3” C-clamp from the top of the cross member. I left a small gap between the lower end of the clamp and the cross member. When it came time to place the shield, I positioned the shield in this gap and tightened the clamp. (Note: after the preparation portions of 2 and 3 were complete, I positioned the shield and rotated the cross bars first, then clamped the forward part of the shield.) 4. When placing the long screws I found it helpful to place my index finger on top of the rivet nut. Even though I could not feel the screw, somehow my right hand was communicating with my left index finger. 5. I had to use a ¼” socket to hold the tamper-proof key bits. To keep the bit from falling out, I cut a strip of paper ¼” wide by 1½” long. I laid this strip across the end of the socket, aligned with the walls of the socket, and pushed the bit in to the socket. 6. Since there are two different bits for M6 screws, it would be good to figure out early which bit goes with which screw, and keep the bits with the proper screws. Place your order directly with MILLERCAT, use code ProtectMyTaco for 5% off.

I own a 2009 Tacoma Prerunner RWD. I assembled the CAT shield and discovered 4 of the screw holes had to be opened up to match the nuts in the other plates. I also deburred the edges as they were very sharp from the pressing. CAT needs better QC.

Great idea and now you need a gas tank protection plate. Raised trucks with easily accessed gas tanks like our trucks are an easy target to drill a small hole and let our gas pour into a gas can.

Nice! Thx for the video. Im installing mine this week. Question for you, what about the washers on the long screws? I did not see you add them to the screws.
@Garuda1415
2 жыл бұрын
Washers were not provided for these long screws. I added M6 lock washer and M6 flat washer; screws are long enough to extend beyond the end of the rivet nut when installed with washers added. Washers cannot be much "wider" than the head of the screw in order to fit in the depression stamped into the shield.

I took passenger side wing off and it was easier to get front bolts in without removing the trd skid plate once I got them started I bolted wing in. Also had to push that side wing in with loose screws as far as possible to avoid it touching the cross beam. Also rivnuts in front should go the other way so you are pulling down against the head. Just my thought

@@Malingkat5949 I did not have a problem with snugging the screws into the rivnuts. I installed screws, then removed them one by one and added loctite. The rivnuts have plenty of thread. I'm sure they can be stripped if you worked at it. I would not use an impact driver - the special heads on the screws could be damaged. Impact driver on the four original screws which are re-installed with the cross bars.
