The speakers were pretty good, but just not good enough.....of course. So I have slowly upgraded that system with Klipsch open box and scratch & dent buys from Crutchfields. Can find some really good deals there. So now running a 5.1.2 all Klipsch Reference Premier with the Costco R12-SW. Thanks for the ideas and leads on some really good deals.

You would need a preamp processor that can handle up to 32 channels, like a Trinnov Altitude 32. DTS:X Pro is only necessary for any systems that are larger than 7.x.4, since that’s technically the max for DTS:X

Hey I just wanted to ask, okay I have enough speaker spots to have a 9.4.8 but I only plan on using 2 of the sub woofer spots, making my room have enough spots for a 9.2.7 or so, since I will also only use 6 of the ceiling spots, with 1 VoG above my head, for gaming, and movies that support that layout. But most movies I have are Dolby Atmos or DTS:x… I just wanted to ask if you had a recommended receiver and maybe some external amplifiers I could use to boost the sound, wattage going to some of the speakers, unless Denon releases something that will offer about 800 watts to the front sound stage, with the ceilings being about 200 watts, and then the rest of the ear level (bookshelf and surround) speakers using about 200-400 watts, I think…
@ealanosborne
2 жыл бұрын
With that many speakers, might as well get a Trinnov Altitude 16. Although the Tonewinner AT-300 or IOTA AVX17 can handle your speaker count at a fraction of the cost. Not sure what your budget is. One thing to note, though - only a processor that supports Auro 3D will properly do the Voice of God, and the AT-300 and AVX17 don’t support Auro 3D. As far as power, 800 watts for a front stage is a ton! I’d go with an integrated stereo amplifier for your front left and right that can push out 300 watts per channel. Peachtree audio Nova300, for example. But honestly, there are a TON of amps out there that are rated at 300 watts per channel, so I’d suggest going down that rabbit hole on Google. For the rest, I’d recommend a couple Monolith by Monoprice 7x200 amps. Or stick with Trinnov and get their Amplitude amps, like the Amplitude 8 which does 225 watts per channel into 8 ohms.
@Ryand0523

@@ealanosborne hmm, well I just wanted to ask would a fosi audio 100W X 2 amplifier provide at least some help, with powering the front stage, and maybe doing a bit for the surrounds? And doesn’t wattage just mean, the amount of sound a speaker can output, so if I want to leave my speakers kind of on the quieter side, I don’t need to push the full 650 watts or whatever the RF-7 iii are rated to.

If you plan to spend around $1,200, get a 9 channel AV receiver that has pre-outs so you can use that to slowly acquire bigger, better speakers that can be powered by an external amp (or amps). That way, you already have amps in your system, so eventually buying a separate processor won’t seem too expensive the day you decide to get one. 👍

Awesome purchase! Well, Costco also sells 2 more receivers (usually). The Yamaha TSR-700 and the Onkyo TX-NR595. I see online that the Yamaha isn’t there, but it might still be in-store. They’re all $399 like the Denon. I would suggest the Yamaha, if it’s available. But when it’s not online, it usually comes back fairly quickly on Costco.com. I suggest that one because it’s the only one that is 8K ready and has HDMI 2.1 so it’s more future-proof than the other 2 that Costco sells. But if you need to go with the Denon, it’s still a great choice. Really the difference between it and the DN1080 is a few more connection options, a little bit more power, but not much, and a few more bells and whistles that you might not even care about. 👍

What would you recommend if I have a dedicated theater room i'm building that is 25x14 feet roughly for a speaker configuration? If money weren't an issue would it even be worth getting a 9.2.4 or should I just stick with a 7.2.4? The screen will go on the shorter end and was planning on a 165" screen I could go a little smaller on the screen but that should take up most of the wall space.
@ealanosborne
3 жыл бұрын
I'd stick with 7.2.4, not only because your screen will take up most of the wall space, but because some atmos data on certain discs or movies or streaming platforms (Disney+, for example), are locked at 7 bed-layer channels and don't even utilize the front wides. Or if it does, it's only because it's being "upmixed" by your processor, and not because those sounds are supposed to be coming out of the front wides. You still might want to leave yourself open to the possibility of a 9.2.4, though, since the front wides might become more commonplace in Atmos mixes by the studios that master the blu-ray discs or streaming versions. So definitely go with 7.2.4 now, but maybe lave yourself the capability of expanding down the road.

Nice vid. My only "complaint" is that you are trying to inform those new to home theater by giving them false info from the start. The numbering, i.e. 5.1, 5.1.4, 7.1.4, isn't based on number of speakers but rather the number of independent sound signals. For example, you cannot go higher than a .1 for a subwoofer. It is only 1 signal. So, for example, if you have 2 Subs in a 5.1.4 setup, it should be 5.1.4 running dual subs. Major common misperception.

You start with a simple 5.1 system with a receiver capable of Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, and their DTS equivalents. To that receiver, you add 5 speakers and a subwoofer. You can buy them in a package like the Klipsch that he mentioned in the video. Boom, right there, you're like 75% of the way there. If that's ever not enough, you can always upgrade later by getting 7.1 or greater receiver and adding a couple more speakers to add to the ones you already have.
