DO NOT BUY THIS LEMON!!!!! I purchased the 2022 Insight Touring package three weeks ago. I purchased it for a daily driver and for road trips around Oregon, specifically to Mt Hood where my family has a tiny ski cabin. With guests in the vehicle, it is unable to achieve and maintain highway speeds without the engine redlining with any more than one person in the car. It can barely make it up the 2-3% graded area, and I was terrified to try the 6% graded area. It felt INCREDIBLY unsafe and underpowered. My brother and I both thought something was slipping. The engine revs dramatically and almost no power is sent to the wheels. I have no idea how I can use it to carpool. If you know the Portland area, it struggles to get up the west hills of through the tunnel up to Skyline on the way to Beaverton with just me (155 lbs). If I had two people or more in the car, I would feel horribly unsafe. I took it to the shop and they said it was working as designed. This is completely unacceptable! If you live in a completely flat area or only drive on city streets, yeah it will probably be fine. If you have any hills whatsoever, you are going to hate it.

Only people in San Francisco can understand. Driving in SF is a nightmare because you have homeless folk randomly walking in front of you out of nowhere, bicyclists who appear on your passenger side when you're trying to turn right at a stop-light, lots of distractions especially at night, buses with cameras that will whack you with a ticket, if you're sitting in the bus stop when they're coming to make a stop, etc.. Good review guys, I'm driving a black 2019 Insight EX and I'm loving it and the EPA estimates are correct. I average 53.5 mpg per fill up and on short trips on country roads and highways in east Tennessee where the speed limit is 55 mph I have gotten up to 69.3 mpg and routinely average in the low 60's on the highway. My biggest complaint is engine noise or droning, the engine imo is under powered but that's intentional since it's a hybrid so when you drive it you have to drive it like a hybrid to get the best mpg. By that I mean easy on the gas pedal and accelerate slowly and use the paddle for regenerative braking to slow down and that also charges the battery and drive in Econ mode and only use Sport mode when merging or going up steep inclines. Currently gas prices are under $2.00 per gallon so I'm not saving much on gas but when it gets back into the $3.00 to $4.00 range that's when it makes a real difference and all of your friends will be jealous. My previous Honda was a 2015 Civic EX-L and the Insight drives and feels like my old Civic but with a little less power. Overall I'd rate my Insight a solid 8.5 on a scale of 10. If I had to do it all over again I would have spent the extra for the Touring and chosen a different color because a black car of any brand is hard to keep clean! My next Honda will probably be the Honda CR-v hybrid or CR-v or HR-v EV.

I have owned a 2020 Honda Insight EX for about a year. It’s the smartest purchase you can make for a car. It’s a great car. There are a few things I don’t like though. The 2020 model has lane watch, not blind spot. It’s only on the right side. It is useless. The camera quality for sideview and rear is like 320p-720p. It’s not good quality. It looks like 420p. And these guys are downplaying the noise big time! This hybrid makes a weird stalling noise when it is in hybrid mode. Nothing is wrong with it but it sounds unnatural. It is noisy. The brakes are not the strongest. It’s a slow car. Struggles uphill on eco mode, which you should always be on. But none of that outweighs the fuel efficiency, good looks, and the fact that the engine is from Japan! #1 car. Incredibly undervalued. Dealer asked me, “why the insight?” I said “I can’t find any reason not to like it”.

I have a 2021 touring model, and I love it! It is a joy to drive, comfortable, and with all of the driver assist and safety features, I can say it's the best car I've owned. The only negative is the engine noise, which is very noticeable during hard acceleration. Fuel economy is excellent; If I don't use the interstate highway, I get about 52-55 mpg. My normal commute does involve 30 miles on the interstate, dropping the mpg to between 45 and 48. I've seen lots of other owners state they don't get anywhere near 50 mpg, but I'm obviously not having that problem. Could be driving habits, or I just got lucky with this vehicle.

@@tatalala1713 no mods, would love mods though but just get up to speed without making the little lights on the dash white or near green. Always make sure those lights are completely green. One is above your gas gauge the other above your battery power gauge. As soon as you get up to the speed desired let go of the accelerator, then press again but only slightly this should put you in EV mode, keep your speed up in ev mode for as long as possible. And always use your break shifter. They are behind your steering wheel and are not to be confused with paddle shifters. As you come to a stop double tap the shifter on the left. Etc. I have a 2019 touring and it gets 45 city 42 highway real world 🌎. My previous car was a 2018 elantra that was getting 35 city 41 highway. I try to break as early as possible to get the most regenerative breaking. The tires are at the correct air pressure, and I change oil early and often at 4k miles. For whatever reason it just seems to be a car that doesn't get advertised gas mileage. If you don't care about amazing alright gas mileage it's really a good car with more than enough power. Definitely happy with my buy, just dissatisfied with the mpg. Car and driver also had this problem with this car.

I have the 19 touring and can easily get 50+ highway often. I have over 25,000 of mostly highway (66mile commute one way). Thats with driving between 60-80mph and using the mid/plus gas.

Same case for me. I have the 2020 touring and I’m getting mpg numbers pretty close to u. Changing the oil at 4K is a bit unnecessary, I go off the maintenance minder. Or every 7-10k miles. It’s a hybrid, engine isn’t always running.

@@JCo-bx3tq hey, does 89 octane (mid/plus) gas make difference in the mpg? I put regular 87 from shell and i get 42-44 mpg in the city.

Would you recommend getting the base model Honda Insight or the base model Toyota Rav4 hybrid?

Well they are very different machines...I would just check out both of them in person and see if the reduction of practicality is worth the extra MPGs

Just bought a used 2019 Honda Insight base model with 17k miles. On my first trip from LA to Palm Springs, I got 60.4 mpg. I bought this to save money on commuting costs in LA and I love the look of the vehicle, including the interior. I've owned a 2014 C-Max Energi and a 2017 Prius Prime top trim level (which was not worth the price). I decided to get the base trim level on the Insight because it has the best fuel economy. Highly recommend!

The deal breaker is that engine. It's very very noisy. That's bad, regardless of how good the mileage is.

No not really, literally all hybrid cars engines get loud at times.

No lane watch camera, no rear air vents, no electric adjustable seats, same hard elbow rest, no sun/ moonroof. This car costs in Canada 🇨🇦 over 30k. No thank you!!! How many can you see on the roads. None!!! If Honda won't do it right, better don't do at all. Accord is soooo much better car.

One advantage the Insight has over the CR-V hybrid: the 8-inch infotainment screen with the latest HondaLink software. Hopefully the redesigned CR-V will at least get this system.
